chapter thirty-one | the kidnap
The only sounds Artemis could hear when she woke up was voices. Her head was hurting and as she reached up to touch her head she felt something wet on her fingers. When Artemis finally opened her eyes she saw blood on her fingertips.
"Ow." The blonde said aloud. The sound of her waking up got the attention of Alec who was sitting in front of her.
"You okay?" He asked as he stood up and walked over to her. Artemis shook her head. "Here." He handed her a white towel before going back to his seat.
"Where am I?" Artemis asked as she looked around. The towel was now on her head and it stung every time she put pressure on it.
"On a plane on our way back to New York."
The blondes eyes shut open when she heard that. "What?! Did you guys serious kidnap me?!"
"To be far we did ask nicely." Jace retorted from two rows in front.
"I don't care if you guys asked nicely. It's still not okay to kidnap someone." The blonde snapped.
"It's not a kidnap if you're related to the person who took you." Clary said from next to her.
Artemis rolled her eyes. "Last time I checked you have no rights over me."
"Actually I do. You're still seventeen and I already turned eighteen, so that makes me in charge of you."
"Doesn't matter because the McCall's are my adopted family."
"Would you two shut up?!" Alec snapped. "It's going to be a long ride and I don't want to hear you two fighting the whole way there."
Artemis sighed as she removed the towel from her head. She placed the towel down on the seat next to her before she closed her eyes and let sleep take over.

When she woke up again she realized it was dark out and the Shadowhunters where asleep. Getting up slowly from her seat Artemis walked towards the back and into an empty restroom.
She reached in her pocket and found her phone still where she left it. "Thank God." She whispered. Pulling it out from her pocket she unlocked it and called the first person she could think of Isaac.
He picked up in the first ring. "Artemis, thank God. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." The blonde whispered.
"Why are you whispering?"
"The Shadowhunters are sleeping. I don't want to wake them. Now listen after you guys take care of the Beast I want you to come for me. All I know now is that they're taking me to New York, but I'll leave my phone's GPS on so you guys can fine me."
"Are you sure you want to wait until we stop the Beast to come get you?"
"Yes. Promise me you'll wait to tell them, Isaac."
"Lydia and Stiles already know."
The blonde sighed, but nodded. "That's fine. Just tell them not to tell Scott."
"Your brother is going to flip out ones he finds out what happened."
The blonde smiled at the thought of her brother. "I know, which is why I don't want you to tell him yet."
"You know, I'm really worried about you." Isaac replied. Artemis smiled at his comment.
"Thank you, but I'm fine."
Isaac sighed on the other end. "I know. Lydia made it pretty clear that you can take care of yourself."
Artemis smiled again even though she knew he couldn't see. "Yes, I can take care of myself. I am a hunter after all."
"Can I ask you something?"
Artemis frowned. "What's wrong?"
"Lydia said you're like them. Is that true?"
"I wish it wasn't, but you remember the red head?"
He paused for a moment. "Yeah."
"Well, it turns out she's my biological sister."
"Seriously? Wow."
"Anyways, I just wanted to check in and say that I'm fine. I'll call you if anything goes wrong and call me when you stop the Beast, please."
"I will and Artemis,"
The blondes paused, "Yeah?"
"We'll bring you back home in no time. I promise."
"Thank you." Was all Artemis said as she ended the call. Once the blonde opened the restroom door she found Alec standing in front of her. The blonde jumped at the sight of him.
"You scared me."
Alec smiled slightly. "Sorry. Who where you on the phone with?"
Artemis froze "No one."
Alec didn't look convinced. "It's okay. Just tell me."
The blonde looked down before replying. With a laugh she said, "You're going to think I'm stupid."
The tall boy smiled as he took her out of the restroom. They both walked to the empty seats in front of them before sitting down.
"Try me."
Artemis sighed. "I called Isaac."
Alec's eyebrows shot up. He obviously couldn't believe why she called him. After everything that guy did to her, she still trusted him.
"I know what you're thinking." Artemis said sadly. "Why call him after everything he did to me... If I'm being honest he's the only one I trust with all this."
"What do mean?" Alec asked as he turned to look at her better.
"My brother Scott." Artemis replied with a half smile. "If he knew what was going on, he would stop at nothing to get me back. And I don't want him to worry about me when he has to deal with the Beast."
Changing the subject Alec asked, "So, you and your ex. What's the deal with that?"
"There's no deal. We're friends that's all we are and that's all we'll be." Alec nodded but didn't reply. "I mean have I thought about getting back together with him, yeah I have. But it's too soon."
The Lightwood boy paused. "I've been meaning to ask. Why do you where that ring around your neck?"
Artemis looked down at her necklace confused as to how Alec saw it. But the confusion went away as soon as she saw the ring above her jacket.
"Um, you weren't supposed to see it."
"Why not?" Than realization hit him. "Isaac gave you that ring didn't he?"
"Yeah." The blonde mumbled.
After a moment of silence Alec finally said, "It's late. You should get some sleep." And with that he turned in his seat and closed his eyes.
Artemis sighed while turning on her side. She too closed her eyes as soon as she placed her necklace back under her shirt. Soon enough darkness took over and she was over come with sleep.
