chapter fifteen | the pain of loving
When Alec finally made it back to the hotel he couldn't help but think that Artemis was very lucky. Even with no parents she had people who loved her and would do anything to keep her safe. The Lightwood boy could tell the feeling went both ways. He could tell by the fact that she was willing to get herself killed just to save her friends.
Alec was brought out of his thoughts when he heard his phone ring. A feeling of guilt passed over him when he remembered that he lied. He lied because he didn't want to see Artemis talk to any of the boys in her group of friends. As a matter of fact it made him feel jealous that she had more then one man in her life, even of they were just her friends.
There was one guy though who Alec didn't know what to think of him. Alec could tell that there was something there by the way Artemis talked to the guy. But something told Alec that there was more to this relationship then meets the eye. Form his eyes he could see they or more like Artemis was in love, but behind that love there was a heartbroken girl.
A knock on the car window brought his mind back. His sister was standing there looking at him with worry. By now Alec had unlocked the car and got out.
"I called you." His sister said as she stood next to him with arms crossed.
"Yeah, um, I saw. I was just a little distracted."
"Thinking about Artemis?" Izzy said with a smile as she leaned onto the car.
Alec rolled his eyes but nodded anyway. He knew there was no point in lying to her. Izzy knew him better then anyone.
"I just, don't know what I'm feeling. I mean she's so mysterious about her life and this town. She won't let me help her, she doesn't like when I get in her business and she acts like if I get close to her I will die."
"Maybe she just doesn't want to get her heart broken again and as for that other stuff, I wouldn't be able to tell you."
"So, you've noticed." His sister nodded. "How?"
"Call it girl instincts. A girl knows when another one has had her heartbroken."
The Lightwood boy could feel his mood change to anger at the thought of someone hurting Artemis. But as soon as the feeling entered him it was gone. Alec shook his head at the thought of liking someone.
"I don't care. Why should I care? We're here for the cup, we don't need Artemis."
"We both know that's a lie, Alec. She's a shadowhunter rather she likes it or not and she needs to be with her own kind."
Alec sighed. "I have a feeling that she won't want to come with us. Even if she ends up believing us and gives us the cup."
"Why do you say that big brother?"
"Because her whole life is here, I get that now. She won't leave this place not even if we tell her the truth about her parents..."
