CHAPTER 6
——————————
I CAN FIND THEMSydney had to say, this was the best day of her life.
From dress-up with Lila, to resting under the tree, to trying actual food that wasn't slop,
it made her heart flutter. Her heart felt something... joy, was it? She could smile and enjoy her surroundings, not wanting to cry.
No one forced her to burry her emotions or use her powers.
No one scared her or threatened her.
Everyone treated her normally. How a human should be treated.
She wasn't the Little Girl to them.
She was Sydney.Clint was overjoyed to see his baby sister become comfortable with her surrounds. He didn't understand everything she went through, but he had that older brother instinct to get some idea of how awful it was.
He enjoyed seeing her smile with the pink dress and wig- first time he thought he was a genuine smile from her since they met again. It was heart wrenching for both Bartons on this day.
The sun soon set behind the house as night crept unexpectedly on everyone. Today had been dramatic- so much happened, it was almost impossible to believe it all happened in one day.
Sydney sat out on the couch, still in the dress and socks Lila put on her. (She took off the wig due to Clint's constant nagging to take it off. It kept itching her scalp...she didn't want to take it off though but didn't wish to upset her brother)
She watched Lila and Cooper kiss Laura and Clint goodnight with a tiny smile on her face. She wanted to be loved like that. Maybe she could be loved like that.Laura took the kids up to bed despite Lila protests because she "wanted to stay with Sydney"
Clint just shook his head and told his daughter to go to bed and that Sydney should be around for this "meeting""she can stay." Sydney told her brother after Laura left with the kids. "Lila can stay."
"I don't think they should hear in on this."
"should I?"
"of course. You were always an Avenger to me. The team thinks of you as one too."
Clint kissed the top of Sydney's head.
He motioned for her to follow him into the dining room-kitchen combination, where the other avengers and one new man with an eyepatch were spread about.Sydney followed slowly behind and leaned against the wall to watch the adults talk.
"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of Vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing." The man with the eyepatch announced.
Sydney couldn't place her finger on exactly who he was, but knew that he was in charge.
