CHAPTER 15
———————————
THE SIMPLE LIFE

If someone told the Sydney experimented on and crying herself to sleep in the clutches of the HYDRA base a year ago that one day soon she'd be back home where she was loved and cared for by her family, she wouldn't believe you.
She couldn't fathom that idea... it seemed too far from reality even to come true. But after all the events of the age of Ultron, that fantasy soon became a reality. Her Reality.
Even still, her reality still seemed too good to be true... Sydney still couldn't believe where she'd gotten to.

The first month home was a new experience for the young girl. Everything was new to her again. It was like she was a little girl all over again. Like a baby re-experiencing life. Small little things everyone took advantage of, Sydney gushed over how magnificent they were.

First things first, the television. Everyone knows how a tv functions and what it does... Sydney couldn't remember that, but her curiosity made her want to know more about it.
At first, she'd eyed the television curiously as Clint flipped through the channels on a Sunday night with the family trying to find a movie. Everything on the tv was so interesting to the girl... even the news.
(The news gave information on what was happening in the world)
How could one have such access to so many choices?
Sydney grew to love the television and almost every show that came on, but she preferred the classic movies from the old times... the 80's.
(Clint would roll his eyes every time his sister referred to Star Wars as an 'old movie')

Then Laura.
Yes, Sydney knew who Laura was.. but it's what Laura did made her intrigued.
She'd observe Laura cook breakfast every morning. How to work the stove and how food was cooking was so cool to Sydney. She only knew that food came to her on a tray back in the base so watching Laura making food in front of her was—Sydney just couldn't believe her eyes at first.
Anything Laura did, Sydney watched carefully as if she was taking mental notes to try those things herself someday. Sure it was a little odd to the woman to have an almost 14-year-old observing her, Laura understood the circumstances behind why Sydney behaved the way she did.
(Eventually, Sydney grew out of that habit after 6 months)

She'd try to read books again... but found it quite hard to read... in the beginning, it frustrated the girl. She felt stupid. Why couldn't she read? Or do... anything?
Clint saw this and immediately jumped to help... which is why Clint found some time out of the day to assist his sister in learning to catch back up where she should be at her again.
Reading, Writing, Stronger Vocabulary and Sign Language were among some of the little lesson that Sydney was taught by her brother and sister-in-law.

Those were just some of the small things that Sydney enjoyed in her first month or so back home.
But soon, things changed even more:
The Bartons added a new addition to the family not long after their arrival home.
Nathaniel Pietro Barton—named after Natasha and Pietro.
