CHAPTER 20
———————————
BREAKING THE RULESSydney hated home right now more than ever. That was a phrase she thought she'd never think to say... but here she was! After all that had happened in the last few years (specifically being kidnapped by HYDRA), it would be reasonable to assume that she'd like being home where it was safe. Yes, she liked that it was safe, but not the fact that it was practically a bunker.
Maybe it was teenage rebellion or something else within her craving freedom, but she felt so alone and stuck in her current situation. No one seemed to understand her thoughts or what she wanted. In Sydney's mind, she believed Laura and Clint were treating her like a little child... she wasn't that anymore and she was nearly sick of it. Don't get her wrong... she loved Clint with her entire heart. He was her brother. He was trying his best, and Sydney gave him credit for that... what she didn't like was how he was doing it. The list of strict rules, the constant fighting, no use of powers... it absolutely tore her up inside. She wanted a relationship with Clint, but not at the expense of losing herself in the process.
At this point, Sydney didn't know what to do anymore... she thought she must've been going crazy. Any sane person would've gone nuts at this point... but Sydney held her composure despite almost losing it at Clint multiple times in the last few days... she was trying...Really she was. All she wanted right now was to see the outside world once again...
It was another one of those days. Sydney's so-called 'bored days', the second one in less than a couple days. Again, everyone was going out of the house and again, Sydney was going to be left all alone. She was used to it, it happened just a few days ago... but if she wasn't so upset with everyone in the house (mainly her brother), she wouldn't hate it as much today.
A knock tapped on Sydney's door in a rhythmic style and immediately she knew who it was. The door slowly opened revealing Clint, the last person the girl wanted to see at the moment. Sydney rolled her eyes and turned on her side to face the wall, avoiding eye contact with her brother. She crossed her arms over her body and slung her blanket over her torso, her best attempt at hiding. She didn't owe Clint her full attention nor did she believe he deserved it.
Clint sighed softly, fiddling with the door handle. "Hey.. uh.. I'm leaving. Laura and the kids already left... but.. um, I'll see you later today, huh? Make sure you come out in the living room at some point... just in case."
No response. Sydney continued hiding herself in her covers with a scowl on her face. All she heard from him was 'blah, blah, blah, have fun at home alone.'
Clint's face fell as he slowly walked into the room, not caring if Sydney wanted him in or not. "Hey, Syd... I know I've kinda been an ass recently."
