CHAPTER 7
——————————-
CHASING THE BODY

Sydney didn't sleep well that night. The thoughts of Ultron getting her and the people she cared about haunted her.
She was afraid she couldn't save them.
She didn't want that to happen. She couldn't let that happen.

That morning, very early that morning, she sluggishly trudged down the stairs, still in the pink dress and holding the wig, rubbing her eyes with her free hand.
The girl's bags stood out profusely on her pale face, under her eyes, quite easy to tell she was exhausted. She worked very hard yesterday for the team and she hoped they'd understand that... she wouldn't tell them about the whole 'couldn't sleep due to nightmares' thing. That'd be an issue for later.

As she arrived to the kitchen, she was met with a confused look from Clint. "You know... you can take the dress off. I'm sure I've got more comfortable clothing to wear."

"I can find some pants for you." Laura chimed in next to her husband. "None of your old clothes will fit but we'll have something lying around."

Sydney shook her head, "no." She said firmly, placing the wig on her head as neatly as possible.

"Why not?"

The girl bit her lip, " 's com-comfortable..." she lied to him.

Sure, the dress wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world, but she moved quite freely in it so it wasn't that bad for fighting if needed.
The real reason she didn't want to take it off was because without the dress and wig, she thought she was ugly.
Everyone told her how pretty she looked with the dress on, which did boost her confidence a bunch. The wig, though, when she took it off, she wished she had longer hair back. Everyone thought longer hair was pretty and Sydney, with her shaved head, thought she was ugly.
But Clint didn't need to know that... right now at least.

Clint sighed and simply shrugged, "alright then."
He pecked Laura's cheek, "we'll be back soon."

Sydney waved to Laura. The woman smiled in response and pulled her in for a hug. "Stay safe, sweetheart, okay?"

She nodded slowly, leaning her head against Laura's shoulder. She didn't feel as much of a comfort with Laura than with Clint, but it was still someone she cared about.
Sydney turned back towards Clint, who was waiting for her. He took hold of her free hand, "come on. We gotta hurry."

The flight to South Korea was a long one. Almost felt longer than the first flight.
Once again, Sydney kept to herself while Clint flew the plane, Steve and Natasha standing not far away.
