CHAPTER 22
————————
ARGUMENTS

Sydney's heart fluttered in her chest as she practically skipped the first half of her way home. The entire day felt like a dream... a dream she wished she'd never wake up from.

A part of her wished she let Casper take her home. It would've been much quicker and she's get to stay with the boy longer... but her brain told her that wasn't a smart move. Casper would've been walking evidence that she snuck out of the house and broken the rules.

By the time she reached the fence of her home, the sun disappeared out of the sky, leaving her in complete darkness. The only source of light Sydney could see shone out of the house from the kitchen, along with the front porch light being lit. From those lights, the girl could see two tall shadows casting out before her, shadows that she could only assume belonged to Clint and Laura. Now her dream would turn into a nightmare...

Sydney could've made a run for it. Try running around the house and climbing into her room to try to lie her way toward innocence... but that was lying and Sydney hated liars. She didn't want to become what she hated.

Sydney dragged her feet along the pathway leading up to the house. She stood down before the porch, staring back at Laura and Clint. Both adults had less an pleased looks across their faces that caused guilt to rise throughout Sydney's body. She gulped, biting her lip. She couldn't show her fear... she wasn't scared of these two, only scared of the consequences of her supposed "bad actions". She could power through it and get through whatever her brother was going to say to her and she could say whatever back to him. Her glare hardened at her brother and she took a deep breath, lowering her head and power walked toward the house.

Neither adult spoke up as Sydney pushed by them to get into the house, but quickly followed behind her. Clint slammed the door behind him, a sound which normally would've frightened Sydney, couldn't have bother her the slightest in the moment.

"We don't lie.. isn't that some bullshit saying you'd tell me? Is that what you tell me all the damn time?" Clint started off, spitting out the words like venom on his tongue.

Sydney was caught off guard with how upset he was... she couldn't believe it! How could he be so angry? Yeah, she broke a rule, but what was the big deal? This was something she'd dream of doing all year and she had to break some stupid rule to do it? Why would that be considered bad? If anything, she should've been the one angry about the fact that these rules were in place. She had every right to be angry, not Clint.

Sydney rolled her eyes, slinging her jacket off her shoulders. "Didn't lie." She mumbled, hooking it on the coat hanger.

"Where'd you go? Huh? Answer me!" Clint yelled, slamming his hand against the wall to gain the girl's attention toward him. Gain her attention he did, because at the sound, Sydney jumped toward him, her deadly glare still prominent on her face.
