CHAPTER 14
———————
AT LAST

After long hours on the cramped ship, the Avengers were finally back in New York— which meant, the Barton siblings were finally on their way home.

Clint softly shook his sister, who was sleeping peacefully on his shoulder.
(A well deserved nap if she said so herself.)
That was the most relaxed the young Barton looked in awhile... Clint almost didn't want to wake her and carry her to their ride home.
"Sydney, wake up."

The girl slowly stirred awake, rubbing her eyes as she made eye contact with her brother. "Hmm?"

"We've gotta get off the ship."

Sydney blinked her eyes multiple times, getting used to her surroundings once again. Most of the Sokovian citizens were already assured off the ship, long gone, and the limp body of Pietro Maximoff no longer rested on the floor.
Sydney shook her head at the thought of Pietro being dead—it saddened her to think about despite it happened hours ago.

"Time for home?"

Clint chuckled, nodding his head, "yeah.. time for home..."

Sydney swung her feet over the seat before rising up, wobbling as she did so. She didn't recover as fast as she wished. Her legs moved like jell-o when she first stood up. Bruises lined her legs, a sense of pain overwhelmed her for a moment.
But, The pounding in her head dissipated so she couldn't complain too much about her pain.
At least she wasn't dead.

Though she was feeling better, she sure didn't look good... neither did Clint.

The two Bartons appeared as if they came from hell and back. Dirt and dust covered her faces and necks. Blood stained under Sydney's nose and up Clint's right arm.
Sydney's once pink dress with white collar was dirtied beyond imagination, as was the long blue flannel.

Clint wrapped his arm around his sister and escorted her out of the ship. A few straggling Sokovian citizens were left but a majority were already gone.

Sydney couldn't bare to look at anyone. She'd feel worse about the situation than she already did. It was her fault this all happened, wasn't it?
No one would admit to her that it was her fault if she ever brought it up.
'No it wasn't your fault, sweetheart... you're just a child' they'd tell her if she dared to talk about her feelings.
Children can do awful things-she'd respond.
Just use herself as an example. She's the reason people died... she's dangerous to others... wasn't she?
She could've done more... stop Ultron from the beginning, assist her teammates more... but no.. she had to do less than her teammates.
She sighed quietly to herself, wiping the corners of her eyes where tears full of anger and anxiety threatened to fall from.
