"Opening the door this morning, that's all it took to know." Your mother pauses, her fingers wiping away a tear of fear that had just begun to escape from her eye. "Mothers dragging their children away."

She casts a look at Kylo, hate beginning to cloud her eyesight. She's heard of the horrors he is capable of performing, of the hateful acts that took place under his commands.

"They must have called an air strike or something of the sorts," she adds feverishly, unable to tear her eyes away from Kylo's. He looks down, embarrassment turning his cheeks red. "I haven't felt this level of fear around this planet in ages."

How could the First Order be coming to Jakku again? Your mind goes into hyperdrive trying to think about how they could've found you so fast.

Then instantaneously, your head and Kylo's snap upwards, both coming to the same realisation at exactly the same time, almost as if someone planted it into your minds right there and then.

"Let's just say that you're quite.. Easily trackable."

Those were the words to come out of Hux's mouth on your last encounter with him. Trackable, he had uttered. At the time you weren't quite sure what he had meant, but now; now you weren't quite sure how you could've been so stupid.

How could you have overlooked such an obvious fact? He had just stood there smirking as you both ran out of that room. The smile painted on his face should have been enough to drown your insides with paranoia.

But, as usual, there was one factor that shone so bright in your mind that made you blind to all others.

Kylo.

Leaving with him was all that mattered.

"How did we not scan ourselves?" Kylo rages, panic and anger in his voice as he pats his shirt down, slamming his palms violently over his pieces of clothing.

"The tracker is on me," you mumble, your mouth dry. "He advised you to not travel with me."

Kylo's eyes dart onto yours, and in half a second both him and your mother have bolted themselves over to you, frantically patting down every last inch of your hair, skin, clothes.

"I-I can't feel anything," your mother stammers, emotion getting the better of her as she takes a step back and tries to compose herself.

"You don't have any scars," Kylo mumbles, mostly to himself than to anyone else. "I would have noticed earlier. It's not implanted inside of you."

The thought of any one of Hux's people's hands on your body sends rage tingling all over his body. He wants his mask, he wants his sabre, he wants to lay waste to every single person aboard that ship.

The ship which was undoubtedly making its way to Jakku this very second.

"I don't have scars," you whisper as your eyes fix on a single spot on your left wrist, "because scars heal. Mine healed ages ago."

"What-"

"All stormtroopers have a tracker ID implanted. I remember it was one of the first things they do to us. Right after erasing our memories."

The words fall out of your mouth mechanically. This doesn't mean anything. How they found you isn't important, Kylo should know that.

"A tracker ID? They couldn't have-"

"They could and they did," you say, your voice loud and certain over Kylo's increasingly panicking one.

It's not like him to lose composure- but he always does when he fears danger coming for you. He's confident he can singlehandedly take on anything and anyone Hux sends for him, but he knows he'll be defeated if Supreme Leader Snoke makes an appearance. He never even completed his training. How could he defeat him?

But a tracker ID means fighting is futile.

A tracker ID means there's a chance he could lose you any second.

It means he may have already started losing you.

"Vega- which model of tracker IDs?" He grabs your wrist, his thumb brushing up and down against the soft skin, pressing on the veins.

"The old model," you gulp, staring him straight in his eyes, trying your hardest to hide the fear in your eyes.

"Can someone please explain?!" Your mother cries, her eyes fixated on the man holding her daughter's wrist with a shaking hand.

"Old tracker IDs have a lethal amount of poison inside of them. All it takes is one push of a button from Command Control and it will be released into my blood stream. It less than thirty minutes to spread through my entire body."

Kylo's features mirror your own grim ones as he adds, "There's never any evidence found in the bodies after. The poison mimics blood cells and becomes undetectable. It's the perfect murder."

Your mother listens to all of this with a racing heart and gaping mouth.

"It's used on stormtroopers who decide on going rogue. I've also seen it being used as a scare tactic," you finish.

"We must get it out of your system," Kylo says, his voice certain. "We have to."

"There's no way you'll make a clean cut like that- I could die from blood loss," you say, making your way to the window.

"No-one's dying!" Your mother cries.

Kylo follows you and spins you around, stopping you from peeping outside. "I'm not losing you. We have to try."

"There's no trying. We need to negotiate with Hux."

"Vega," he says, his tone deadly serious, his fingers digging into your wrist as he pulls you closer into him. "There's no negotiating over your life."

"Kylo- Ben, you don't understand, once that button is pushed then I am done, I am dead- gone," you shout. All attempts at keeping yourself composed for your mother's sake is proving futile. "He's probably already had someone press it. He's coming here to retrieve a corpse."

*

The words dig into Kylo's heart and it feels like he suddenly cannot breathe, and all the memories of him hurting you and verbally abusing you and neglecting you and pushing you away cloud his vision and his legs feel weak as he pictures you dead- dead, gone, corpse- a lifeless corpse, the colour drained from your cheeks, your eyes staring at nothing and at no-one.

He would not be able to live without you now, you are his life, you're the rare spring in his step and the daily smile on his face, you're the pleasant dreams and the contrast to his never-ending nightmares, you're the object in the dark black cavity where his heart should be and for all these reasons and more  he swore he would keep you safe, you saved him, you changed him, you turned him from dark to light.

From dark to light.

From taking lives to saving one.

If Hux wanted to negotiate he would negotiate.

But not over your life.

Over his.

If one of us has to live without the other, he thinks as he brushes his thumb over your cheek, it would have to be her.
