Irene's P.O.V.
Today was Friday, as usual, Slater was still courting me and I don't want him to get close to me while I was still having and internal battle with myself. I kept on telling him that I need to have time since this whole thing was just too confusing and surprising for me, I don't know why I said that but i think I was really happy when he's giving me all the things I want. Not by all the possessions I want, but they way he gives respect to me and they way he told me that he's willing to wait for me to be ready and all.
Today, Wendy and Jade was inside my room. They told me they wanted to do their homeworks here since it's kinda boring to be in the living room because mom and dad were both in the company and Jared was with the basketball team, training the whole day because they're going to have a hard time to have a game with the opposing team we have tomorrow. The school only decided to let us enter the school and discuss half of our subjects until the afternoon only, then the rest of the basketball team could get ready and train in the gymnasium. The cheerleaders are also required to go there and practice but i'm not in the mood to do some lifting and rolling today. I was also bothered by my assignments and the projects Wendy and jade have, I want to help them. But then, my phone suddenly starts to ring, I looked at the caller ID and it was only a number, an unknown caller. Wendy and Jade looked at me so i just answered the call.
"Hello?" I asked once I answered my phone and looked at Jade and Wendy who was still writing something on their notebook, I walked closer to them and sat on my bed where they are still doing their homeworks there. They were actually lying on their stomach and listening to some musics.
"Irene?" I instantly froze when I heard his voice, I pulled my phone away from my ear and looked at the number. I was unknown but I guess I already know who this person was, Wendy and Jade noticed how I froze and they looked at me in question. I just gave them a smile and shooked my head, they're worried about me but I just wanted them to handle everything on their own.
"How did you get my number?" I asked, almost breathless because of the shock I felt today. I was wondering how he got my phone number because I never even gave Slater my phone number, sure we worked as partners before but we're only calling each other through Jared's phone.
"That doesn't matter" Slater answered after a few minutes of silence, I heard a ball bouncing inn the background so I think their practice is still on going and my mind instantly thought that Jared was the one who gave my phone number to Slater. Next time I would really love to talk to him.
"Can you attend our game tomorrow?" He asked as I shooked my head and saw Wendy already eavesdropping in our conversation.
"Why would I?" I asked immediately but then I noticed that my tone was in an angry tone, I don't want him to misunderstood things again so I decided to apologize.
"I didn't mean to sound angry, I'm sorry. I just have many things to do tomorrow" I uttered hoping that he would actually believe all the lies i'm making, there was a long pause on the background before he finally uttered something.
"So you can't come?" He asked, I looked at Wendy as she raised her eyebrows, she knows what we're talking about. Jared must've told her that they will have a game tomorrow and she surely does know that Slater will somehow invite me to watch him.
"I guess so" I uttered, feeling a bit sad that i'm turning down his offer.
"okay, see you on Monday" Slater uttered after that, I hunged up on the call and stared at Wendy and Jade who have their arms crossed on their chest.
"Don't be such a heart breaker and attend his game" Wendy uttered as she pulled my phone away from me and probably change Slater's unknown number into his name, I wasn't surprised at all,
"Wendy, you know I can't do that" I uttered, trying to write something in the notebook Wendy was writing on earlier.
"You can and you will" Jade then answered it for me, I know what they're trying to do.
"It's not easy"
"Because you don't want him to be close to you and you don't want him to know that you'll eventually reject him even if he keeps on courting you"
