Before We Part

Promise me that before we part,
You will remember what happened between us,
Right from the very start.

Your memories will take you to a time
When all of our music would play
And all of our poetry would rhyme.

Before our last stolen glance,
You must know how often I've dreamt
That we would have one more chance.

For every flaw and every fault,
You've opened my heart
Which was once a locked vault.

Before you leave, allow me one last hug,
And on every last one of my heartstrings
You will tug.

You must know that I'm in agony
From leaving you,
The one who made me feel so much less lonely.

The pain may dull once I am old and grey,
And for you it may be the same,
You mind going astray.

I know, however, that though we now part,
You will forever remain at the back of my mind
And at the front of my heart.
