Inspiration occurs on the
brink of delirium, and that
is all that I can ever hope
to understand in this world, be-
cause some of the saddest and most
lovely written words strung toge-
ther have derived from deliri-
um from the latest hours of the
night right up until the earli-
est hours of the morning. Writers
are maniacal creatures of
the night, continuing to put
our brains to work while our eyelids
are drooping and we are so out
of it that we almost do not
even have any idea
what letters are flowing from our
fingertips and onto a page.
All that we know is that the night
is when our emotions are mag-
nified times a million and
every pathetically
melancholic thought that we think
is being transcribed in ink and
that somehow, our midnight, one- or
two-in-the-morning thoughts are al-
ways better than any thoughts we
can have during the rest of the
day. Perhaps it is the darkness
in the sky that allows us to
have such a sudden acute a-
wareness of our own struggles; per-
haps we are able to final-
ly see that we are not alone,
and that the sky is full of dark-
ness and nothingness, much like our
own broken, black-holed hearts.
