It was another sleepless night for Vicki, except this time she didn't feel like she was about to pass out. Whilst watching the film the previous night with Audrey she had managed to take a few shorts naps without really dreaming, meaning when she got home she was quite happy to lay awake until it was time for school. Occasionally she would sit up to sketch something in one of her many notebooks, or faff around with her outfit for the morning - a pretty blue, woollen dress with a frilly lace collar, black rose rights and a pair of simple black brogues. About an hour before anyone was awake she fixed her hair so some pieces of the curly strands were pinned back, framing the girl's pale face.
The drive to school was a quiet one, but not awkward. Noah was slightly nervous about his interview with the sheriff, despite the fact he was completely innocent, so instead of being his usual bubbly self he was almost silent. He still asked her how she was and how she had slept. She of course lied, not wanting to dampen his mood even more.
When the two arrived at school they very quickly found Audrey. Noah ran off for his chat with the sheriff, leaving the two girl's to talk amongst themselves as they waited on him. Wandering up and down the halls, they talked aimlessly about nothing important. But the way Audrey kept checking her phone, biting at her lip as she did so, implied that she wasn't really in the mood.
Once Noah was set free the trio sauntered over to Nina's memorial to look at all of the corny messages that had been written.
"I miss you, Nina-Bobina. Rest In Prada, love Miranda" Noah held the piece of card, his nose scrunched in disgust "Isn't that the girl Nina fat-shamed into some questionable Guatemalan liposuction?"
"Sounds like our Nina" Audrey sighed, Noah scoffing.
"How would you describe Nina's relationship with the other students?"
Noah and Vicki turned to watch the interview with mild interest whilst Audrey continued to read the messages pinned on the gate. An attractive young woman with glasses was interviewing one of the teachers, holding out her phone to get an account of what she said.
"As you can see, she was loved. Very popular"
Audrey turned round, frowning at the woman's words. Popular, yes. Loved was a bit of a stretch. It was more feared.
"Yeah, yeah" the reporter nodded "Well, thank you very much and have a wonderful day"
"Yes, you too"
"Thank you for your time"
"Absolutely"
With that the two shook hands and departed
"Who's that?" Audrey asked, studying the woman's face.
"I have no idea" Vicki shrugged "But I think she's coming this way"
No sooner had the red head uttered these words, the journalist was upon them, her white teeth in a gleaming smile.
"Hey, guys. I'm Piper Shaw" she introduced herself, Noah edging closer "I'm doing a story for-"
