When Vicki came home she was officially bummed out. Having spent the whole night with the two couples she had decided she hated love, or more specifically "the straights". She was too wrapped up in her own bitterness to truly appreciate how happy everyone else was, sulking off to her room without even saying goodnight to Noah on her way.

But the small present on her bed sent her mood sky rocketing upwards. A brand new phone, courtesy of Marie. She grinned as she sat and set it up, happy that she finally had some way to contact her friends once again.

She was just getting ready to go to be when she received her first text message.

Unknown : Hello beautiful

The girl frowned, typing back a simple question.

Vicki : Who is this?

Unknown : A friend.

Unknown : You looked pretty tonight.

She let out a snort, shaking her head.

"Can you stop being creepy, Noah?" She called from down the hall, shaking her head.

Unknown : Pretty enough to kill for.

The words sent chills down her spine.

She locked her phone quickly, trying to laugh away her nervous nature. It was just her dumb cousin screwing with her. Who else would have her number?

Unknown : Sweet dreams.

She decided to stop looking at the messages, turning off her light and pulling the covers over her head.

She ignored every bad feeling she had and fell into a numb sleep. But she also ignored her very open window.

Vicki was standing in the woods by Wren Lake. It was cold, the air thick and hard to breathe. She could feel the freezing dirt beneath her toes, making the girl shiver and clench her fists in protest. Her vision was hazy, like a thick fog surrounded her, clinging to her pale and bare skin.

She looked to her left as something black flashed by her. It almost it looked like a person, dressed in a cloak. But the face was all white and glowed in the pale moonlight, giving the impression it was more spirit than man. A ghost.

She tried to focus her eyes more, feeling a chilling breeze run through her hair.

A buzz from her right hand made the girl frown. She brought it up to her face, frowning as she inspected her phone. She had a message from her friend.

Unknown : Did you enjoy your walk?

Her heart leaped in fear, looking around her with sharp vision. It seemed her body was now wide awake.

They say in dreams that you can never count all your fingers. So that's exactly what Vicki tried.
