Shortly after the small conversation between the two girls an officer arrived to carry the injured Vicki out to the medics. As Noah, supported emotionally by Audrey, gave his statement to the police, Vicki was checked over by Maggie. She told the girl that the wound on her leg was only a minor cut luckily, and her neck would be bruised and sore for the next few days but nothing was seriously damaged.
Although, she couldn't tell if that were the intention of the killer. The way he had forced her down, ruthlessly cutting off her air supply, it felt like it was meant to be the end of her. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time the killer had left her only just alive.
She had the dreaded feeling that there was something much bigger planned for her.
That night she spent time with both Audrey and Noah watching films, happy that they were all still alive. The two girls did not address what had happened between them, but instead joked as if nothing had happened.
Nothing did happen.
She was saving your life.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
None of them slept very much, haunted by the events of the last few hours. This meant that when Vicki joined both Noah and Audrey at the boy's work, which over the past few weeks had become some form of second home, she found herself dozing on the familiar couch. The sharp pain in her neck stopped her from fully sleeping, so instead she listened to the idle chit-chat that filled the room.
"And he lives to fight another day" Audrey joked in a soft voice, very aware of the sleeping body close to them.
"I never did find knife-stick" Noah sighed, turning away from his job of stacking board games "He was probably recruited into the killer's arsenal. Brainwashed into thinking he was a weapon of evil"
"Tragic" Vicki grumbled, her voice monotone.
"Hey, can we go back with my camera and shoot a modern-day Blair Witch with a retro bowling alley theme?" Audrey suggested.
"I'm never setting foot in that place again" Noah shuddered "That was slimy, asbestos-sprinkled torture"
"But illuminating" Audrey shrugged "I mean, Will was kidnapped and Jake was stabbed. Probably safe to take 'em both off the killer board"
"Unless that was exactly what it was meant to do. Jake's on the mend, Will's wounded-warrior act made Emma forgive his sins. Either one of them could have set up this entire fiasco just to convince us to trust them"
"That's dark"
"And twisted" Vicki sighed "And genius, so if that big brain of yours is right we don't have much of a chance"
"Cheery" Audrey rolled her eyes.
"Hey" the girl sat up, grunting "I'm just being realistic"
