Vicki didn't tell the boy anything else, and he seemed to sense that she didn't want to talk anymore. After he left she sat on her bed, staring out the window at the real stars. Her memorial wasn't enough tonight. She had to see the real thing. She watched as the stars slipped away and the sky turned from an inky black to a light pink and finally a peaceful blue. Her eyes didn't move from the same spot, she barely breathed. She just sat and watched, her focus sometimes changing to her reflection in the glass.
She looked how she felt. A mess. Large bags under her eyes, a pale face. She was less of a person and more of a shell of a body. Her mind was blank, but the uncomfortable kind. She had too many things to think about, so much so that it all melted into one large scream.
Feeling a vibration against her leg for the third time in a row within the space of five minutes, she decided to glance down at the phone. An unknown number. But not the same one from last night. She picked it up, putting it on speaker so she didn't have to move that much.
"Hey, it's me"
The girl let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, short-stuff"
"I've told you not to call me that"
"But it's so funny to see you get worked up about it"
"Whatever"
"What's up, Audrey?"
"It's Rachel's wake today"
Vicki sat silent, unsure of what to say.
"I was wondering...if maybe, you could come with me"
Vicki again refused to speak. Reality was setting back in for her. Everyone was dying again.
"I don't think I can do this alone"
"I'll meet you at her place, text me the time and address"
"Well, I'm going over right now"
"I'll get ready then" Vicki got up from her bed, stretching her stiff limbs "I'll meet you there as soon as I can"
"Thanks"
"Don't worry about it. It's gonna be okay"
Audrey hung up and Vicki went for a quick shower, pulling her long locks back into a ponytail as to not get them wet. She then found a black dress, tights and simple flats. Rubbing on some foundation and a little bit of mascara so she didn't look like a zombie, the girl headed out the door, sending Noah a text to tell him where she would be for the rest of the day.
She glanced at the address, deciding her best plan was to look it up and get directions. As she was playing around with her phone she walked straight into someone, glancing up in fright when she realised what she had done.
"Vicki?" Emma frowned "What are you doing?"
"Going to see Audrey"
