Chapter 18 - Happy

Standing in front of the changing room mirror, Vicki let out a sigh. Normally she would have fought with the teacher until she could get a long sleeved T-Shirt or song tracksuit pants instead of shorts. But today, she didn't care. She no longer felt afraid to show her body or her scars.

Last night's reactions were exactly what she needed to put herself in a good mood. She only hoped it would go down as well with everyone else. Usually she would have expected the worst to only come of out having to do P.E - athletics were not her strong point, then again neither were academics - but she was abnormally optimistic, linking arms with Audrey as she made her way to the gym hall.

When class began she sparred with her, the two of them mostly fucking around instead of actually working until their teacher called the whole class over with two definitive claps.

"All right, now let's put what we've learned to the test" the man stated "But remember, self-defence is not about how strong we are. It's about how well we use the strength we have inside"

Very inspiring, teach.

"Will, come on up"

The boy nodded, bouncing onto the mat fluidly.

"And...Audrey"

"Kick his ass" Vicki whispered before playfully pushing the girl forwards.

"Same scenario. Dark lot, guy's larger and stronger" The man motioned for the two to begin. Will tentatively put one arm over Audrey's front, waiting for the next instruction.

"Now what you want to do is-"

But Audrey didn't need an explanation, pulling down on Will's arm as she flipped him over her. When he was on the ground, she pinned that arm to his back, making the boy groan in pain.

That's my girl.

She heard her whisper something to the boy before letting him go and walking away, but didn't catch the words as she was too far away. When the girl had reached her side she gave her a high five, making Emma grin. Noah began a slow clap, Vicki snorting when no one joined in.

And that's my dork.

"Okay, Vicki and...Jake"

Audrey pulled a face of disgust, watching as her friend walked onto the mat confidently.

She wasn't going to let anything get her down. Not even Jake Fitzgerald.

The two met in the middle, Jake placing one arm around the girl like Will had.

"You look cute today" he whispered, making her skin crawl "A bit cheeky, wearing shorts to get your little girlfriend all-"

Before he could carry on, Vicki pushed her elbow into the boy's stomach, knocking the air out of him. He let go of his hold on her, stumbling back. Before he could retaliate the girl kicked him back, fists raised to protect her face in case he swung a punch.
