Vicki let her gaze wander over the groups of drunk, swaying teens, trying to also lose herself in the music. But no matter how hard she tried, her body stayed stiff and uncomfortable as always. Maybe it was because of how sober she was.
Glancing towards the laughing Audrey and Emma, she almost thought about joining them. But then she remembered how the two had acted this morning, like complete strangers meeting for the first time. She didn't want to interrupt the flow they had fallen in, so instead moved away from the small corner she had been skulking in and went to find her cousin.
It didn't take her long to spot the teen - he was tall and gangly and stuck out against the jocks around him. But then she noticed the girl he was practically drooling over, which must have been the one he had been so nervous to talk to in the car earlier. She could tell by the way he watched her every little move like she was an angel performing a miracle.
Once again she walked off, not wanting to disturb another conversation where she wasn't needed.
Brooke. Brooke would want to talk to her right. She couldn't help but feel left out by her friends. Of course it wasn't their fault, they had their own lives that they needed to get on with. It wasn't their fault that she wasn't part of it yet. She'd only just arrived. She could hardly expect them to drop everything, it was okay. But still she was lost in a knee-high lake of self-pity when she walked into a strong chest.
"Sorry" she stepped back quickly, praying that nothing would happen.
"It's alright" the boy shrugged, sending her a warm smile.
To anyone else they would have found it charming. But she knew smiles like that only meant danger. Sensing an element of Jake in the boy she apologised again and began to walk away, but he stopped her, blocking her exit with his arm.
"What's your name again, sorry?" he asked, turning his head to the side as he studied her.
"Vicki" the girl muttered, looking behind his shoulder for anyone to help her. Sadly, no knights in shining armour were around to tell the teen to go away.
"Ah, of course" He reached forward, taking the girl's hand in his and kissing at the knuckles, a move that had no doubt worked on many ladies "How lovely it is to meet a pretty girl such as yourself"
The girl was paying so much attention to his failed attempts at flirting
"Thanks" she replied flatly, trying to show she wasn't interested in his drunken antics.
"So, Vicki" his mouth fluidly pronounced the name, but the dark look in his eyes made her squirm "Do you like water?"
In an instant hands reached out, some grabbing her legs and others her arms, lifting her up into the air. She let out a gasp of shock and started to thrash around, kicking and punching as best as she could with her limbs held. The hands proved stronger than her, and a few of the boys jeered at her attempts.
"Put me down!" she screeched, trying to bite at one of them "Put me down right now!"
"Oooo, I'm terrified" the devil boy smirked walking besides his friends as they carried her nearer the pool "Come on, babe, calm down. It's just a little water, you worried about your phone or something?"
