When Vicki woke that early morning she was still on her bedroom floor, starting up at her stars. Noah had not wanted to disturb the girl by trying to move her, so instead put a pillow under her and tossed a blanket over her body before leaving her.

The girl had been tossing and turning for quite a few hours but when she heard to the sound of birds chirping she decided that enough was enough. Getting out of bed unsteadily, the girl grimaced at the unpleasant taste in her mouth, quickly fixing the problem by brushing her teeth. She went for a quick shower to try and remove some of the stiffness in her back before choosing some clothes to wear.

She decided she would put on one of the tops her mother had given her - a white off the shoulder, cropped shirt with a beautiful black flower design. The puffy material felt soft against the skin on her stomach, making the girl smile. Tracing her hand over the design she ignored the feeling of the sharp indent just above her belly button. If she ignored it, it wasn't there. The same went for the the line across her right thigh and the one on her right arm. If she ignored the pain, it would fade eventually. It was a lie, but a comforting one at that.

The girl had yet to learn that scars never heal.

She grabbed a pair of high-waisted black trousers and black wedges, checking that her golden ring was still wrapped around her finger before paying attention to the reflection in the mirror. She settled on pinning her wild locks back into a messy bun, hoping that her bright red lips would distract from the sad look in her blue eyes. Everything was fine. She was still breathing and therefore couldn't complain.

Moving down the stairs, she once again declined breakfast from the smiling woman in the kitchen, but instead grabbed an orange on her way out. Her cousin trailed behind her with sleepy eyes, making her a little worried as he was the one responsible for their lives on the drive to school.

The pair arrived still intact despite the girl's doubts and were met by Audrey, who was feeling slightly more optimistic than the day before. It seemed they all were.

"Good morning" Noah greeted, slinging one arm around each of the girls as the trio walked towards the doors.

"Maybe don't look so happy buddy" Audrey shook her head "A girl just died"

"Oh right" Noah lost the smile, trying to look more serious. Vicki shook her head at the hyperactive teen. Most people would be horrified by the news of Nina's death, but Noah had put it best yesterday, he was only curious. It was a strange way to be but she was starting to understand her cousin was a bit odd. And this was a small town where hardly anything happened. An obsession with the towns legendary serial killer was probably more common than they thought - he had filled her in on the towns dark secrete, making her feel even more ill as he drove, constantly taking his hands off the wheel when he got too excited.

"Speaking of which" Vicki cleared her throat "Has there been any update on what happened?"

"Not really" Noah shook his head "But Tyler, her on again off again boyfriend, seems to be the main suspect"

"As he should be" Audrey added "It's always the scorned lover"

"You make a valid point, shorty" Vicki nodded, avoiding the girl's smack "What I want to know is why?"
