PROLOGUE
ELAYNA
Without even having to turn around, I knew from the way lust dominated the eyes of the nearby girls, that Adam Lima and his friends were headed towards my direction, where I was standing with Selena Pique, one of my best friends.
Or rather past us, towards the cafeteria, seeing as it was lunch time.
“They are all too sexy for words,” Selena drooled as the guys walked past us, with a hint of adoration in her voice, which irritated me to no ends and even though she had her back to me, I knew she had her ‘flirt face’ on. “Don’t you think Ella?” She asked.
“Not really,” I said rolling my eyes at her back. Selena turned around to face me after hearing the exasperation in my voice. With a raised eyebrow she sighed at me. So I explained, “Come on Selena! Those guys have egos big enough to fill our entire auditorium ten times over. They think they’re all that-”
“That’s ‘cause they are!” Selena interrupted.
Rolling my eyes at her once again I continued, “Egos that big would make any guy ugly.” Seeing the look on Selena’s face, I put my hands up in mock surrender, “That’s just my opinion doll,” I said smirking at her.
“Whatever,” Selena replied, her flirty expression taking back its place on her face, “You need to learn how to appreciate some fine man candy when you see it.”
Just as I was about to argue back, I saw she that she’d began to mirror my smirk so I let it go, rolling my eyes at her once again.
With our arms linked, we walked through the now mainly empty hallways towards the cafeteria. Deep in thought about how I was hoping the lunch ladies were serving some pizza today instead of that unidentifiable slush they had been trying to shift these past couple of days, I hadn’t heard a word Selena had said to me. “Sorry,” I said with what I am sure was a sheepish smile on my face, “I was daydreaming about food. What’d you say?”
Selena’s chuckle at my expression and soon enough her chuckle turned into a hearty and contagious laugh, looking at her with her eyes all crunched up with laughter made me smile. No matter how I felt, her and Faith’s smile always managed to make my day that bit more bearable.
“Excuse me,” a familiar voice said from behind me. Turning to face the source of the voice, I collided straight into their hard chest not realising how close they stood behind me. Feeling uncomfortable with the violation of my personal space, I took a step backwards.
Unfortunately, the laces to my converses were undone and I lost my equilibrium, just as I was about to get acquainted with the cafeteria floor my intruder, and the cause of my almost fall, grabbed onto my elbows to steady me before my teeth could kiss the floor.
