Chapter 16: Feels Forever
THOMAS' POV
I had woken up kinda happy, I guess. Girly bed cover? This isn't my room. Then I remembered Indie. I sighed. I hoped she'd be home soon. When I woke up, I thought it was going to be a good day, with no worries, nothing, but remembering, I have the worries of never seeing Indie again. What the hell? Why am I thinking that way? I know I will see her soon.
"Damn it!" I yelled, kicking the bed.
I rested my hands on my head. When I thought I'd calmed down, I left Indie's room and went downstairs. My pace quickened when I was on the stairs but by the time I reached the bottom I suddenly stopped. All the happiness that was once in this family, had been overcrowded by gloominess and misery. Mr. and Mrs. Denning's must feel really bad. Why wouldn't they?
Mr. Denning's was just sitting on the lounge staring into space and Mrs. Denning's was sitting at the dining table just staring downwards. I let out a breath and went and sat across from Mrs. Denning's when my mum came out.
But before she could say anything, I spoke to Mrs. Denning's first.
"I'm sorry for staying here last night,' I said, 'how are you feeling this morning?"
I had to try and comfort her somehow. My mum smiled at my efforts.
"Oh Thomas, 'Mrs. Denning's started sadly, 'that's okay, your mother stayed, um, too."
I could tell she really didn't want to talk.
"And I'm feeling okay, thanks sweetheart," she added.
I smiled. But I felt like this is my fault.
"I feel like this is my fault," I finally said.
"Thomas!' My mum cried, 'try to talk about something else!"
She gave me a stern look.
"No, no Marry, it's okay, 'Mrs. Denning's replied, a tear rolling down her cheek, 'I don't mind talking about Indie, it gives me some sort of comfort although,' she paused. 'It still makes me sad. 'Anyway, darling, continue what you were saying," she said, waving a hand for me to continue.
"Oh,' I stammered 'I didn't want to say too much, 'just, that, I, er, feel bad, like it was my fault."
Mrs. Denning's gave a slight chuckle.
"No sweetheart, 'please don't blame yourself. 'It was just a fight between Indie and myself. 'I know it was hard for you, knowing when she didn't but please boy, don't blame yourself."
I just nodded.
At that time the phone rang which was rather loud since it was so quiet. Mrs. Denning's hesitated and quickly adjusted at the sudden noise.
"Do you want me to?" My mum asked.
But Mrs. Denning's just waved her off.
"No, no, Marry, I will, thank you but."
Mum gave her a smile of sympathy.
"Hello?" Mrs. Denning's answered.
She listened for a while, tears welling up in her eyes but she didn't move, didn't flinch.
