Chapter 21: Stain
I woke up, in a squishy sort of bed. It was bright. Light was shining through my eyes, straight to my brain. I shielded them and my arms hurt to move. I didn't have any trouble whatsoever about what had happened before I woke up. I knew full well, alright. I looked down at my arm, it had a drip in it. I was still in my clothes and still covered in blood that was mostly dry although some patches were still wet.
I was completely awake now, looking at the hospital surroundings'. Visitors of other patient's were staring and pointing at me about the state I was in. People gasped to see how much blood I was covered in.
Once the nurse saw that I was awake, she walked over, a big smile on face. I tried to sit up a little.
"Oh, it's alright, 'you just relax," she said to me.
I just nodded.
"Sorry, we couldn't clean you up until you were awake," she apologised.
"That's alright," I replied, my voice was husky and croaky.
"And we don't know anything about you either! She cried. 'We can't search you."
"Oh," was all I said.
"Will you tell me your name?" She asked.
"T-Thomas, Bennett," I replied.
I didn't have any ID on me. I could have been lying.
"How long have I been asleep for?" I asked her.
"Oh, 'she started, 'an hour and a half, maybe two," she replied.
So it was still early in the morning.
"Yes,'she continued, 'the ambulance put a needle in your arm when you got into the van. 'You were in a terrible state you were!"
I nodded.
"So what do I do know?" I asked.
"Well,' she started, 'I will have some of the higher nurses ask you some questions. We still have to call your parents and get those police back."
Those police? I didn't want to see them again. I was going to tell her myself but she disappeared to go get me a glass of water and to find the higher nurses of the ward.
The same nurse came back with a glass of water for me and two other nurses, followed behind her. She passed me the cup and then went back to her desk around the corner.
"Hello dear, 'one of them said, 'I'm Ruth."
I gave her a slight smile.
"And I'm Judy," the other one added.
They pulled up to chairs and used the 'food table' that patients had, to write on. They had a booklet with them that they had to fill out.
"Okay sweetie, we need you to ask you some questions," Ruth said.
I nodded.
"I know I don't have any ID,' I added, 'but when I ring parents, mum will bring my license."
