Chapter 5: His First Day
Last night, after mum had made dinner, I went to bed early. I was really tired and didn't feel that well but I was not, I repeat, was not, going to have today off. I had to see Thomas today at school. I had to be with him and I couldn't wait to see him in his uniform. Sunset Valley Private's uniform is navy and white. The girls had short skirts, not ankle length thanks goodness. The skirt was navy with pleats and we had a peter pan collared white shirt with a small navy tie and our school crest. We had navy socks and our usual blacks shoes as well as having a navy jumper or cardigan. The boys uniform had grey pants, a white shirt, a long navy tie with the school crest, the usual blacks shoes and a navy jumper.
I got dressed in my uniform and did my hair and make-up. I went downstairs to find Skylar was already in her uniform and having breakfast. I stood at the kitchen bench and put on some toast for myself. As I waited, I bent down near the front door and peered through the mail slot which was actually never used now. I thought I might be able to see Thomas doing something outside but no, he still must have been inside getting ready with Brendan. I jumped as my toast popped and I went over and put my favourite spreads on and sat next to Skylar as she sipped her milkshake.
"Do you like Brendan do you?" I asked, thinking about how much I like Thomas.
"No, she said, quite seriously, ' I like Thomas."
"WHAT!" I yelled, looking shocked.
She cracked up.
"I'm only joking Indigo, I was just testing to see how you'd react because now I know, you have the hots for him!" She smiled at herself, sipping her milkshake again.
I pulled back and squinted at her. She looked at me and laughed.
"I always liked Thomas since I first saw him," I said.
"I know, she said, and mum knows too."
"Whatever, I replied.' Mum knows you love Brendan too."
She looked at me.
"We're only friends, Indigo."
"Don't use my name like that," I said, as I bit into my jam toast.
"Like what?" She asked.
"Like your my mother or something," I replied, putting my plate and her cup in the dishwasher.
She shrugged and grabbed her bag.
I went to the bathroom and cleaned my teeth before I made my way over to Thomas' house. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to check the time. 7:05 am. Have to go now!
"SKYLAR!" I called, grabbing my bag and heading to the door where mum was waiting.
"Bye mum," I said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Bye mama," Skylar said, her too, giving mum a kiss.
We walked out and crossed the road over to Thomas' house where we were going to pick him and Brendan up to walk down to the bus stop.
"There house is freaky," Skylar said, looking it up and down.
I shrugged and knocked on the door, Manny answering the door.
"Hi Manny!" Skylar called, waving to her.
"Hi! She said, showing her cute smile, 'I'll go and get Brenny and Tommy for you!"
"Aw, how cute! Said Skylar, 'those nicknames for the boys? 'Aren't they cute Indie?"
"Sure," I said, not really concentrating on what she was talking about.
