"A few months ago.....A human came to the underground. It seemed to come from the ruins. I'm guessing it fell down here or something and Sans was the first one to find it. He told me to be careful around the thing though. Because it wasn't......good he said. I asked him how he knew that. That you shouldn't judge others before you get to know them. But he insisted that I stay away and not to question it. So I went home like he asked and waited till he came back. When he did he didn't mention the human at all. Just said to keep away again. Far away. I was so confused. We've all been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. It gave me hope. So why not take it? I wanted to be the hero. To be apart of the royal guard and this was my ticket to getting in. I don't think Sans tried to harm the human or anything, just trap it or lead it the wrong way because when I snuck out to find it, it was alone and far from civilization. My brother had went to one of his stands in Hotland because its one of the few places where he actually gets business from. Thats when I left the house and looked for the child. It was just sitting there.....staring at nothing. It looked harmless but once I drew closer it tried to grab me. I let it. Frisk. That was the child's name. So innocent looking at first glance. But I was wrong. The thing cracked my arm in half and threw it somewhere. I was shocked and......a little scared. I asked Frisk why he did such a thing. But its face was so emotionless. It told me it had a secret. Something that could only be shared with me and only me. And that he had to whisper it. So I bent down to its level but.....it struck me hard in the head. I was put in a daze and the pain was excruciating. No ones ever done that to me before so the feeling was new. Once I regained my vision and asked why it did that Frisk only balled its fist. The child said that it enjoyed the sound of bone cracking and that I was perfect for it. Why would someone want to harm another being? Its not right! So when it continued to hurt me and tell me that it would do the same to the rest of the monsters underground, I knew that I couldn't let that happen. We couldn't just die like that! We've waited so long! No one. No one deserved to be murdered by their hopes." Papyrus balled his fist and closed his eye sockets, trying to stop a tear from trailing down his boney face. The memory was one that he never wanted to come across again. Mettaton was silent the whole time, hugging his knees to his chest. He never knew about the human before. Who else did? But he decided to wait until the skeleton was ready and eventually he was. "I didn't want to hurt it. Not any creature. But it was so sadistic. The pleasure it took from snapping my limbs over and over again. It wanted me to suffer. It told me that! I knew in the back of my mind that this couldn't go on. No wonder Sans wanted me to stay away from it. He warned me. And now I was faced with the consequences. So I did what I had to do.....I killed it. I used my special attack......brutally. I tortured it, used everything I had against it. But I didn't want to. But what would have happened if I didn't? The human would have killed us. Murdered everyone. Man, Woman and Child. It didn't matter who. They didn't care. But then I remembered that Sans talks to someone in the ruins. We both thought that they were dead. They had to be. The child came from there. But Frisk told me. It told me that it wanted the monster to suffer. To be stuck in isolation. Alone in the underground. To be the only one here, knowing that we were all dead and that the one from the ruins would have to deal with it forever. They'd never escape by themselves. Forever trapped here. When the human told me that, I couldn't believe that such a being could exist. I killed it. Burned the body and spread the ashes in the river. It pleaded and begged for me to stop but......I-I didn't. Its face was melting and their voice screamed for mercy. I had called Sans some time ago when Frisk and I fought. He came right away and stared as the child was engulfed in flames. I felt terrible. Horrible. But my brother patched me up and told me it had to be done. There was no other way. The thing only came to destroy." Papyrus stopped to take a deep shaky breath but continued. "I t-told Undyne the news. She wasn't happy that I killed it. Not in the least. I was suppose to capture it. Not murder it. But once me and Sans explained the reason, she understood and apologized for yelling. Th-then she a-asked me If I wanted to finally be apart o-of the royal guard. You see, Its always been my dream, my passion, to be in the royal guard. Its all I ever wanted. Ever. B-but I couldn't take the offer. Not after what I did. Undyne only nodded, squeezed my shoulder and gave me this look that I still can't explain till this day. Once that was over, I kept having night terrors. Always questioning my actions. Was that the only option? We finally had a human come here and I ruined it. That was our freedom. Thats what we've all been waiting for. I was no better than that child. Alphys found out too after a while. I didn't like the idea of Undyne keeping secrets from her so I gave her the green light to tell her. No one else knows about this. No one. The three of them helped me through it though. I'm just now getting better. But it will always haunt me. Always." Mettaton watched as the skeleton put his head down, eye sockets shut and hands clasped together, shaking and squeezing one another. The robot was speechless. What could he say? Now he was glad that his mother didn't tell him. It wasn't her place to do so. And he had yelled at her. She wanted to make Mettaton Neo to insure their safety if the problem ever arised again. Although she didn't ask, he would have gladly took the responsibility if it meant that his boyfriend would never have to go through this another time. But it still made him feel betrayed. He didn't want to have to fight alone.......
He looked at Papyrus and frowned. This monster had been through hell and was just now recovering from it. No one should have to go through something like that. The star bit his bottom lip and carefully touched the top of the skeleton's skull. It was a light touch. Gentle. Papyrus' body shook uncontrollably, making his bones rattle. He made eye contact with his idol, showing him his bright orange tears streaming down his face. It was a horrible sight to see and Mettaton was sure that he never wanted to see this beautiful creature cry ever again. He placed both hands on each side of his face and wiped away the tears off his cheekbones. "I'm sorry that you had to do that. But that doesn't make you a horrible person because of it. If anything darling, you saved us. All the monsters underground. That human would have only killed us all. Everyone. You did the right thing. You protected us. Thank you for that Papyrus." With that he kissed his forehead and hugged him close. The skeleton gasped in surprise. It took him a minute to gather his thoughts on what was happening. His boyfriend was comforting him. Thanking him for what he did. He felt soft lips kiss his temple. "You're my hero."
