Next class, chemistry. I slipped through the massive crowd, trying not to be shoved. As I am small, I maneuver through them quite easily. Stepping into the science lab door, it quickly did a scan, making sure no food or other content of any sort was on me. The light then flashed green, allowing me to proceed.

I walked over to my table where my lab partner was, Alden Sladek- the jock. The good thing is, no one ever hits on me- which I'm quite thankful for.

"Why do you have a journal? Are you really that poor?" One of Alden's friend snickered.

I clutched it closer, concealing it in my satchel. "What's with the satchel? Can't afford a bag?" He kept laughing. Alden stood there, staring at me the whole time. I felt myself go self cautious.

"Alright class, get to work." Mr. Levine announced.

The class work was projected onto the paper sized screen in the little corner of the table. I grabbed my stylus out of my bag and quickly did my work.

"Why don't you just type?" Alden asked, but not in a rude manner.

"I just like the feel of hand writing things." I spoke the truth.

"Don't let them get to your head." He cocked his head in his friends direction. He then smiled and went back to typing on his TechBook.

I must look like I got smacked in the head. Alden Sladek, just talked to me. Weird.

The first half of my classes went by quickly. Classes went smoothly, other than the fact of being teased.

I pulled the small bag out of my satchel, consisting my lunch. Opening the bag, I took out the peanut butter and jelly sandwich and took a bit.

While eating, I took the journal out- feeling its worn out leather material against my small hands. He touched this. I gripped the journal a bit more.

I heard snickering around me. Looking around me, I saw them laughing at me for holding the sacred object. I quickly put it back in my satchel. I stood up, throwing away my half eaten lunch and quickly walked out the lunchroom.

I could feel someone's presence behind me as I approached the media room. I walked in and went into my normal corner on the sofa- behind the shelves of books from a century ago. I could feel someone watching me. Looking around, I only see the new-looking books.

I pulled the leather-covered journal out of my satchel. Yesterday while I was searching through our attic, I found a box full of books written about a century ago, and on top was this journal. On the cover, there was a letter M carved neatly into the leather surface. Opening up the cover, neatly printed in ink was:

Astin Marx Roberts

My father's name. I asked my mother if I could keep the books but hide the journal. It's the only thing that I have of him. Surprisingly, all of the books looked brand new. My father's journal was worn out from most likely the numerous times he's picked it up.

I opened the journal out to its first page. His messy scribbles filled the entire page.

28.6.2109

You're the only one who I'm going to say this to but, I met this girl. She's beautiful, has a bubbly personality, wonderful. Her name's Genevieve Jann. Her chestnut brown hair fell perfectly down her face. Her brown eyes captivated me. I feel like a lost puppy.

Well. I didn't really know what to write in this. Father told me to write in this if I didn't have anyone to talk to. I miss him. Him and his encouraging words. He would have gave me advice.

Genevieve. Her name brings a smile to my face. I hope I see you again.

Astin

I smiled at the thought of my father meeting mother for the first time. I heard shuffling. I lifted my gaze from the page to see Alden frozen as a statue as he's holding a book in his hand. He straightened himself and placed the book back onto the shelf.

He slowly made his way towards me, scratching his neck nervously, flexing his biceps in the process. "Uh. Hi."

"Hi." I chuckled at his awkwardness. Alden the jock, was nervous around me?

"Sorry about my friends. They're real pricks." He shakes his head, sitting next to me on the love seat.

"It's fine. I just wanted to go somewhere quiet." I gave him a small smile, going back to the journal.

"Where'd you get the journal from? I haven't seen one of those in forever. Aren't they considered 'prehistoric' now?" He did the quotation gesture with his fingers in the air at prehistoric.

"I found it in my attic. It was my dad. I don't know if this would be considered prehistoric though." I chuckled. How am I talking to him so easily?

My tabloid then vibrated in my satchel. I rummaged through it, then realizing it was in the front pocket, I mentally face palmed myself. Pulling it out I got a message from him. I smiled and opened it.

BritBoyStemonty srsly? anyways what are you doing?

I quickly replied back as I felt Alden tense beside me.

KeiratheAussie in the media room reading the journal

BritBoyStemonty the one you found yesterday that was ur dad's

KeiratheAussie yup that one

Alden cleared his throat, causing me to jump a bit. I could see his muscles tense as he sat there staring at my tabloid. When he saw me looking at him, he relaxed.

"Um, not to be snooping or anything but, um, who are you messaging?" His brows furrowed making his brown eyes soften.

"A guy." Not knowing his name. All I can infer is that his last name is most likely Stemonty.

He tensed up. "What's his name?"

"Uh..."
