I knocked on the door, peering in to see Ms. Kartner's head pop up. "Keira, it's so nice to see you! Come in, come in." I walked into the small office and gave her a hug.

"Ro is very sweet. We kinda kicked it off with a good start." I smiled at her.

"You always have a good start with all the kids." She smiled back, going back to filing some papers. "And Ro, she must've told you she was 6." I nodded. "Her full name, Rosella Amber Benoist. Lovely name for a lovely child." She smiled kind-heartedly.

"How's it been?"

"Calvin's been helping out lately. Such a sweetheart. The kids get more food than before." Just at saying his name, he pops his head through the doorway.

"You called, Ms. Kartner?" He's always been like this. Whenever someone says his name, but doesn't intend on actually calling him there, he just jumps out of nowhere.

"Oh, no darling. I was just mentioning you to Keira here." She gestured to me with a goofy grin.

"Oh, okay." He gave her a smile before retrieving.

"That boy. Is everywhere I tell you." She chuckle while shaking her head.

"Always been like that since, I can't remember." I smiled.

"Now, off you go. Let's go and have some lunch, yeah?" We walked into the butterfly room to see the kids all climbing on top of Alden and Calvin. We stood there, staring in astonishment.

"Alden! Pick me up!"

"No, me! Me!"

"Up! Up!" They all crowded Alden as he stared down at him smiling. He picked up all three of the little ones as they giggled.

"Alden." Ms. Kartner said. His head snapped towards us, frozen in the moment. He place the kids on the ground before walking slowly towards us, Calvin staring.

"Ms. Kartner." He nodded, shoving his hands into his pockets. The air suddenly became really tense between them.

I saw Calvin mouth to go feed the kids. I nodded and excused myself from the cocoon of tension towards the kitchen.

The kids all sat in their seats along with older ones. I went behind the counter to find Ro standing on a small stool, watching Calvin maneuver with the food. "Come on, let's go get in our seats now." I saw her give a big smile before running off to the table.

"So, you know Alden?" Calvin asked me out of the blue.

"Yeah. How do you know him?" I raised an eyebrow.

"It isn't quite my story to tell. You should be asking him. Plus, I was quite a young'n when we first met."

I helped assemble the grilled cheese sandwiches. I could see Calvin looking towards a girl every so often. I smirked. "So, who're you eyeballing there?" His eyes shot open.

"What are you talking about?" His voice cracked a bit.

"Her." I pointed towards the girl with the long blonde hair. She sat shyly talking to the little ones, often looking up to see Calvin staring to give him a sweet smile. I reckon her name was Leigh.

"She's so good with kids." He said smiling. "Not just that. She has a beautiful smile. Beautiful long hair. Her eyes are so mesmerizing, they capture the most beautiful liveness anyone could have."

"Sounds like somebody finally hit you hard, huh?" I chuckled as he nodded.

------------------

"I've been fine for the past 6 years! I don't need your help!"

"Alden, you know better than to do the things that you do. You can't go running around playing and toying with people."

"I'm not playing around with Keira! Do you not understand?" There were some whispered or mumbled words that were barely audible.

"I've let you go many times. But if I find out that you do something like this again, I am taking you in. Do you understand?" "Good, now let's head on out. We've been gone suspiciously."

I shuffled away from the door towards the butterfly room. We just came back from outside and I heard some shouting in the office. I couldn't help but eavesdrop a bit. I am so lost.

"Keira?" I turned around to see Ms. Kartner standing at the doorway as Alden walked past grumpily. "May I have a word?" I looked from her to Alden. I then started walking as she disappears through the door.

"Close the door, please." She sat down in her chair exhaustedly. She then gestured me to sit down. "You may be wondering what you're doing here." I nodded.

She let out a heavy sigh. "Well, Alden's been known as one of the best players in the athletic department in the whole county." I nodded, confused as to where this conversation was going.

"He sometimes engages into inappropriate behaviors. He hasn't done any of such thing in a while, but a few days ago, he was seen beating up someone in an alleyway." My eyes widened. A few days ago? How many days ago was that?

"Because he has such a great run in the athletic departments, they don't want to lose one of their best players.--"

"So he didn't get kicked off?"

"No, Keira. He didn't. But they said if he does any of such sort again, he will be kicked off, and there are many more consequences after. There is no maybe. He will get kicked off the entire athletic department."

"And why is it my responsibility to know this?"

"Because you, Keira. He was seen beating up someone in an alley because of you."
