"Happy birthday." I stood there frozen. Everyone around was looking at us.
"How did you know it was my birthday?" I asked hesitantly, clutching my satchel closer.
"We've been in the same classes since grade school." He chuckled, letting his chest vibrated. "I pay attention to the announcements. I know that you often play with your hair and look down or away when you get nervous. You sigh really heavily when you get frustrated."
He reached out for my hand and held it. "You never look at yourself as beautiful." His words fanned my face, hitting me hard. I quickly looked away, pulling my hand as well. How dare he. I slowly began to walk away, until someone pulled me into a dark classroom.
"What the..." He closed the door and started pacing around the room.
"You really don't get it do you? You don't know how beautiful you are? How many guys you leave breathless?" He ran a hand through his hair.
"What are you talking about." It came out barely a whisper. I felt self conscious like I could wither away any moment.
"You just don't know." He mumbled under his breath. "Let's go." He grabbed my elbow and pulled me out of the classroom. He started walking towards my first class.
"But I need to get to my--"
"Do you really or just to hide?" I stayed quiet. There is really nothing in there since I've got everything I needed for the day in my satchel.
"Alden?" I asked.
"Hm?"
I hesitated a bit. "How come you've all of a sudden started talking to me?" I stopped dead in my tracks, pulling myself out of his grip.
"So you want to be a loner?" He spat.
"That's not what I intended to say. And no I'm not a loner. Alek is a great guy." I defended myself.
"You mean that idiot you've been messaging?" He clenched his fists on either sides of him.
"He knows me for who I am."
"So do I." He mumbled as I pushed past him into my classroom.
I walked to my seat when Ms. Pathiet called. "Ms. Jann, you are to be at the headmaster's office." I looked at her puzzled as to why I must have gotten in trouble.
I walked out into the hall, bumping into someone. I looked up to see Alden. "I see you like my abs, yeah?" He chuckled letting his torso virbrate.
I pushed myself off and straightened my risen shirt. "Where you standing here after that?"
"Uh... well, yeah." He scratched his neck.
"Well excuse me, I need to get my arse in the headmaster's office." I huffed and pushed past.
"Woah, the good girl just attempted to curse and on top of that she's in trouble and making her way towards the headmaster's office. On her birthday to be exact."
"Wow, the school jock is observant huh?" I exaggerated.
"Pfft, I've always been observant." He said triumphantly.
"Yeah." I stood in front of the main office. "Well. Wish me luck." I walked in without letting him finish what he was starting to say.
"Ms. Keira Jann, correct?" The lady asked.
I nodded my head in reply. "Yes, m'am."
"Please go to the following door on your right, Ms. Aurelix is waiting for you."
I walked through the slim hall that lead to what seemed to be hundreds of rooms. I approached the first door to my right. The glass was blurry as it was not translucent. The dark figures from behind the door gave it a mysterious feel. My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the doorknob rattling.
A slim lady walked out. Her chestnut hair fell down her shoulders, her rosy cheeks made her face soften. She looked rather pretty for someone that has an office, like that one.
"Sorry, the knob keeps getting stuck." She gave a sweet smile. "Keira Jann correct?"
I nodded in response.
"Come on in." She walked back into the room and sat on her desk. "So I have heard you have been using the network to talk to someone?"
I looked around the room to see the room enclosed in dark shadows. The white curtain on the window blew causing a chilly breeze to come in. "Uh...yes." Everything seemed to look dark in her...besides her.
"And that person is out of the country as well. You know you are not permitted to be talking to other students, or people in this case, on the network. You shouldn't be even talking to someone out of the country. It could be dangerous." She said sternly.
"Yes, m'am." I avoided her gaze.
"Since this is only the first time you've used the network in our school to contact a being outside of our system, it will be a warning and a detention after school. I personally don't want to do this but it is for your safety that you don't talk to strangers."
"Yes, m'am."
"Now you may be off to your next class. Class is about to transition." She stood up directing me towards the door.
I walked out the creepy room quickly and out of the main office. Turning the corner, I saw a dark figure leaning against the wall. The dark figure began to near.
