I woke up to a massive headache. It was like a brain surgeon was cutting at your skull, while you were still alive. Not a pleasant feeling.

I swung my legs over the bed, hauling the duvet over my body and placed it neatly on my bed. I walked over towards the bathroom, heading towards the mirror that is awaiting my beautiful arrival.

As my inference was correct, my beautiful self has arrived in front of the mirror. Dark circles imprinted under my pale eyes, my lips slightly cracked, my eyes were dull, my hair was a mess. How lovely, if you note my sense of sarcastic humor.

I cleaned myself up, getting ready for school. I grabbed my satchel filled with my necessities and headed out the door, noticing mother wasn't around. Puzzled, I walked down the street. Same as always.

I walked onto the school premises, finding myself in search of someone. I looked over towards the student parking lot, seeing his Bullet was parked neatly. A small smile tugged at my lips and faded as I felt my heart clench.

I walked towards my locker as swarms of people walked past me. Clutching my satchel close, I made my way towards my locker, someone leaning on it, his head turned the other way. I walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned his head around, letting his brown eyes avert to mine. My heart clenched but I pushed the feeling away.

"Hey." His lips tugged into a smile as he looked down at me. His hair styled perfectly into a quiff, the stubbles on his face were beginning to become visible. His hand brushed my cheek as he tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear. I sucked in a breath as the feeling sent daggers into my chest.

"Uh, hey. Can I get to my locker?"

"You look quite lovely today." His lips tugged into a smile, revealing his small dimple. I felt my face heat up.

"Can I get to my locker?" I asked again, trying to pry him off. He stood exactly where he was. I tried to move him again, but he wouldn't budge. He dug his hands out of his pockets, placing them firmly on my shoulders.

"Please?" I tried getting out of his grip, only to have him tighten it a bit, but not enough to hurt me.

"Stop it."

I immediately stopped, frozen under his touch and voice. It came out a bit harsh. Harsher than his usual self. I stared blankly at his chest.

"Look, I'm sorry for speaking like that. But I know that obviously you know that you do not need to use your locker when you can very well carry your bag with you to class." He ducked down, searching my eyes. "Let's go." He dropped his hands from my shoulders. He reached his left hand in search for my right, intertwining it perfectly, leading me through the crowd.

"As you all may know by now, Earth has begun to have a phenomenal oriented change in its rotation causing the amount of daylight to change." Mr. Levine began speaking.

"Mr. Levine, I thought we were in chemistry, not astronomy." One of Alden's friends shouted, earning howls of laughter from the class.

"That is so, but going back to your astronomy courses, you should understand what these are." He gave him a stern look while going back to the lesson. "As you see on your TechDesks, you can see the diagrams in which scientist have predicted what caused the Earths sudden change in time and how it's being done."

I walked to the front of the school, the halls getting cleared as the end of the school day came. Leaning up against the brick column, I stared at the sun radiating off of the buildings, creating sparks in the sky.

"It's beautiful, huh?" His voice startled. He started chuckling at me.

"Shuttup." I mumbled.

"Come on. Let's go." He held out a hand, his chocolate eyes pleading for me to take it. I placed my hand in his, the other grabbing a hold of my satchel as we walked towards his parked Bullet, hand in hand. The small knife digging into my chest, still there, but dug in deeper. I lightly squeeze his hand.

"You okay?" He stopped and looked over at me, worried. I quickly nodded, which only made him get more worried. "Keira." He caressed my face, staring into my eyes. I felt a jolt of electricity run down my spin and shock my heart.

"I'm fine." I tilted my head away from his touch, seeing his eyes flicker with hurt. He ran a hand through his hair as he started walking towards his Bullet. I stood their watching his silhouette cast over the dry concrete.

After a few strides, he stopped, not turning around. "Are you going to come or not?" His head slightly tilted towards the side, going me a small glimpse of his face. I let out a heavy sigh and caught up to him, both walking in silence.

He walked over towards the passenger seat and opened the door. I stared up at him, trying to read his face. "Well, are you going to get in?" He spat, so unlike him. I bowed my head, getting into the car, no longer trying to make contact with him.

The dar ride was silent. Me sulking in the passenger side as he grumpily drove. "You don't have to take me home you know." I took a small peak at him, seeing him tense. He tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

"If you don't enjoy my curtesy of driving you home, then you might as well get off." He gritted through his teeth.

"What's gotten into you? You're never this..." I trailed off, looking away from him.

"Never this what?" He spat.

"You're never this harsh before." I whispered quietly, cowering back towards the window.

He let out a sigh, running his hand through his hair. "Look, I'm sorry. It's just, you're shutting me out." His eyes looked pained. He turned his head away. I heard him mumble something like: "Like they do." Who is he referring to?

"I'm sorry if you felt like I was shutting you out." I placed my small hand on his arm. He turned his gaze towards mine, his beautiful brown eyes are sad. "There are just... some personal things that I'm not quite ready to tell." My eyes pleading for him to understand. He nodded and went back to driving.

•Author's Note•

Although there isn't that much of sci-fi yet, there will be plenty later on in the series so don't leave this book yet! There's plenty more to come.

If some of you were wondering, Keira and Alden's ship name is Sladann (Sladek + Jann).
