We had gone to a few different places, each as homophobic as the last. We had yet to go to a place that didn't think we were completely wrong for trying to help the LGBT community. I couldn't believe that there wasn't a single place that thought we were equal, not gross, or wrong, but people. That's what we are, people just like them.
I was feeling down about it, and was about to give up on the whole community center. I didn't think we would ever find a place to invest in this idea. That was when Jace walked up to me in my room.
"Hey."
"Hi."
"How's it going?"
"Bad, I don't think I can do this."
"What?"
"We haven't had one sponsor, as soon as we get one, we can get started, but until then... We might as well just give up."
"No. We can't give up, think about why we started, think of all those lost LGBT community members out there."
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but I can't do it."
"We just have to try a little harder."
"Are you kidding? There's no point, no one wants to help, and I'm done being yelled at, and being told I'm wrong and worthless, and a disgrace!"
"We all are. But that's what this is for, to show others that they aren't alone, and they have somewhere to go, someone that cares about them."
"And I would love to do that, but you can't do that with no sponsors."
"I know, so come with me."
"Why?"
"Just do it." He said, grabbing my hand and pulling me off my bed.
"Where are we going?" I asked as we were walking.
"You'll see." He said, with a smirk on his face.
We walked for a while, until we were in town. We were walking past a lot of businesses, and stores until he finally stopped and I almost ran into him.
"What are we doing?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Investors." Was all he said.
"I don't feel like it."
"Just this one, I have a good feeling about this one."
"Ok, just one, but after, you and I get to walk around and talk; just the two of us."
"Deal."
"Ok." I said, as we walked inside.
"Hello." Jace said, as he walked up to the desk in the lobby. "I have an appointment with Sally."
"Are you Jace?"
"Yes."
"Ok, she'll be out to get you when she is done with her current appointment."
"Thank you." Jace said, and we sat down in the waiting area.
We waited for a while, mostly in silence. Someone walked outside, and we assumed we would be going in soon.
"You can come back, Jace." A soft voice called from the hallway.
We both stood up and I followed Jace as we walked back. We arrived At the office, and sat down in two chairs by a desk.
"Hello, I'm Sally." The lady behind the desk announced.
"Hi, I'm Jace and this is Ari." Jace stated.
"So you have a proposal?"
"Yes, Ari?" Jace said, motioning for me to start.
"Ok, so a huge problem is homeless youth. Now most of these youth have been kicked out by parents." I paused. "We're focusing on LGBT youth. These youth, have been through a lot, and they need help, they need a place to stay, and be listened to." I paused, scanning her face for any emotion.
"Interesting, why do you want to help these people."
I was shocked, by this point they're usually yelling at me. I look at Jace and he gives me an assuring look to continue.
"Well, I am an LGBT youth, and I was kicked out, so I know that we are desperate for a place to stay."
"I like you, I think you are doing a great thing." She stated simply.
"Really?"
"Yes, I'm also part of the LGBT community."
"Really?" I repeated with my eyes widening.
"Yes, and I would like to help you with this."
"Wow."
"I think that if you can do this, it would be great. So we can set up some meetings and get this thing going."
"Great." I said, as Jace and I stood up and we shook hands then we left.
"That was great." I said, excitedly.
"And you were going to give up." Jace teased.
"Yeah."
"Ari?"
"Yes?"
"We're almost there."
