Bionic Battle

"Bree! Over here!" Marcus called as I carried my tray around the lunchroom aimlessly. I felt myself breathe out in relief. I was hoping they hadn't ditched me or something. I smiled and walked quickly over to the table and sat down across from Marcus and next to Adam, Leo sitting right next to Marcus. I actually hadn't seen Adam all week.

"Hey guys." I said happily. I had been looking forward to lunch since Marcus had suggested it this morning. Adam smiled and threw his arm around my shoulders.

"Hey pretty lady. Where have you been all week?" Adam asked teasingly as he pulled me into a kind of side hug. I laughed and shrugged.

"In school. But today training starts." I pointed out, I knew that they were all probably just as happy as I was about it. But getting back meant that the five of us could all hang out again. These were the closest people to me here at the academy, and I loved spending time with them. Adam smiled and nodded.

"I'm just looking forward to the games in general. I feel like this has been going on for forever." Adam added as he kept his arm around me and tossed a fry into his mouth. I nodded along, totally agreeing with him. Chase had told me I was in the games the second I had gotten to this school, that had been almost five months ago. Then we still had another month of training before they actually started. Not that I was complaining. The simulation was enough to make me slightly want to quit.

"Please, Adam. Training will be great. When the games start, that means that one of us will be plucked out at a time." Leo continued as an eery silence overtook us at the thought.

"Anyways, have you met these two yet?" Marcus started again as he motioned to the girl sitting next to Leo and the girl on the other side of Adam. The two smiled happily and waved.

"Hey." I called. I felt like we were miles from each other since I was surrounded by the guys.

"Hi! I'm Caitlyn." The girl next to Adam called. I smiled and waved back.

"And I'm Jannel, Leo's girlfriend." She replied as she pointed to Leo. I felt my eyebrows raise as I looked to Marcus for any other input.

"Girlfriend?" I asked in surprise. I had assumed that Leo was texting a girl the other day, but I didn't know that they were dating. Leo nodded with a happy smile.

"Yep. You could say she's the special lady in my life." Leo continued as he looked off into the distance and threw his arm around Jannel. I laughed.

"That's actually exactly what you could say." Adam teased as he held out his fist for Marcus to bump. Marcus rolled his eyes and went along with what his brother wanted. Marcus suddenly took on a more solemn look about him.

"Where were you first hour?" Marcus asked. I opened my mouth to answer, no words came out though. I had ditched with Chase, how could I tell him that?

"I umm... Went..." I rambled, leaving off at a loss for words. Adam nodded as he slowly brought his arm back to his side.

"You were with Chase, weren't you? Because you and him went to go drop off that form to Mr. Davenport, so you decided to just not even come to our first class?" Marcus hissed through his teeth. I frowned as I watched him grow more angry by the second.

"Marcus, calm down." Adam said sarcastically, a hint of seriousness about him that lead me to believe Adam had already bowed out of the battle between Marcus, Chase, and himself for me. Chase had told me to be careful, and now it was just down to Marcus and him. This stupid untold competition was getting more dangerous by the second. I glanced to my side to see Adam reaching for Caitlyn's hand, only then did it make sense. He had met someone else.
