A love story like theirs only happens once in a blue moon.
"You are right my love. I am yours, as much as you are mine. I was made for this don't you see."
And a love story like theirs can only end in tragedy.
"I love you Richard, I will live forever in you."
"No! Maine. Please don't do this. We will find another way. Please Menggay not like this, I beg you please. "
But he really can't do anything; he is under heavy medication already, lying on the operation table, just waiting.
He was crying now. But he can't do anything.
"Papa, please don't do this. Nicomaine is your daughter, you treated her like your own. Why are you letting this happen?"
Ricardo Sr. was crying silent tears. Richard is right, but it needs to be done.
"Papa please. I love her. I don't know how to live without her, I can't live without her." And his last statement can't get any truer now.
Richard tried fighting it but the medication has started to get to him. He is slowly losing his consciousness. He reached out to Nicomaine,
"Please love... please"
Nicomaine held his hands and gave Richard one last smile; the sweetest smile she could muster.
That was the last thing he saw before he succumbed to deep sleep.
"Maybe in the next life, love. It will be still you and me. And life won't be as cruel."
Richard was not just born with weak lungs. He was born with weak everything; lungs, heart, kidney.
It was an unpopular option but Madrigal patriarch had no other choice. Richard is his only heir and he will do everything in his power to save him.
Adopting babies left in the hospital so that they could harvest their organs when the time comes is morally incorrect at all angles. But Ricardo was desperate.
When the idea was first brought up with him, he was adamant in saying no. He just can't have it in his heart to care for a stranger just to prepare him or her for harvesting. But it is true, what they say. A parent will do anything for their children.
So that one faithful night, he chose Nicomaine and brought her home.

All the operations worked.
His body accepted all the organs harvested from Maine. He has never been this healthy since he can't remember.
It took him a couple of years to physically heal and recuperate. It was actually amazing given the number of internal organs replaced within him
It still hurts, it will always hurt, but everytime the pain turns to be unbearable he just thinks that Maine is a part of him now. And nothing and no one can ever take that away.
"I'm sorry."
"Hi, it's ok. You look really familiar; have I see you before."
"Oh my God! Is that a pick-up line?"
"Did it work? Name's Richard by the way. Can I pick-up line my way to ask you out for coffee?"
"It's Dei. Sure, coffee with cheesy pick-up lines sounds good."
They say that a love like theirs only happens once in a blue moon. What most people don't know though is that blue moons, they happen again and again.
But it will never be the same as the first one. And this time it won't end in tragedy.
