Looking at the large timetable on the board I gritted my teeth in annoyance. The heats weren't going to start until 2pm this afternoon as there would be 3 races on at a time; one for the 100, one for the 200 and one for the 400m races. Starting at 2pm, the female 100m heats were starting, and I was in the last group meaning I started at 2:15 for the race. Then from there I had to make my way over to the 400m heat which only had one group of female runners which started at 2:30. Then from there I was pushed back over to the 200m heat which started at 2:40.

After that there was a one hour break starting at 3pm so judges could assess the replays and times for the runners and decide who would be continuing onto the semi final rounds and so forth. With the 400m race, as there was only one group of female runners, the first race would knock out 4 people leaving us with the final 4 runners who would race for 1st. This was different to the other races that only allowed the top 3 of each heat into the next race.

With a sigh I looked at my watch and realised it was only 12:30. We had arrived in the city at 10, and somehow made it here by 10:30. We spent an hour warming up and practicing before the ceremony that started at 11:30 and it only just finished a few minutes ago.

Looking around I saw people with cameras and interviewers everywhere, talking to favourites in the competition and one of those just happened to be Eric.

Gritting my teeth I looked away and headed towards my tent where Patrick was already waiting. Muttering curses under my breath I roughly sat down on my chair and folded my arms across my chest.

"What's got your laces in a knot?" Patrick asked, raising an eyebrow.

"That guy pisses me off," I growled in reply.

"Just ignore him," Patrick sighed. "you need to focus on running after all,"

"I know but he's just so..."

"Pompous?"

"Exactly!"

"Trust me, just ignore the guy Jesse. We have two hours to kill, so let's go for a jog or something and get your head in the race," Patrick said, standing up.

"Yeah alright," I sighed. "Let's go then,"

As we started to jog though, someone called out my name, causing us to stop and turn around to find an excited young man and woman dashing up to us; one with a camera and one with a pad of paper in her hand and a pen tucked behind her ear.

"I thought it was you!" the lady smiled as the guy set up the camera beside her.

"May I ask who you are?" I said, feeling a sense of dread flow through my gut.

"My name is Cindi, and I'm a reporter for the DMB sports station! Mind if I ask you a few questions Ms. Patchent?"

"Uh, sure I guess?" I replied worriedly; glancing at Patrick who looked just as worried.

"Oh goodie!" Cindi smiled brightly, taking the pen from behind her ear and pressing it firmly to the paper. "So, Jesse Patchent, I hear that you were fortunate enough to train with Olympic athletes and coaches for a total of three months and that you were offered to stay longer... What caused you to drop out and go back to school?"

I didn't know what to say. NO ONE knew about that except me and Kraig Downster; the coach who trained me for most of the three months. How did she know? I just told everyone my three months was up and that my mother dragged me back to school (which she did anyway).

So how does she know???

"Was it some sort if love interest?" Cindi pressed getting more excited by the second.
