I couldn’t sleep that night. There was so much going on inside my head that I couldn’t fall asleep even if I had run a 50km race without stopping. There were several reasons behind this too; the first being the fact that Blake said and did that to me this afternoon. I could hardly shake it from my brain and whenever I thought about it, my cheeks flushed pink.
The second reason was the fact that I would finally get a roommate in a few days. Three girls were apparently joining Dorm 4 and currently I had no idea who they were going to be. I couldn’t help but wonder if it would be like rooming with Blake, but considering these were girls, it would be entirely different.
The third and final reason I was unable to sleep was the fact that Kalem was lying down beside me; his arm draped over my side making it impossible to get up to leave.
“What do you want?” I asked bluntly.
“That’s a really harsh tone,” he replied, sulking slightly.
“What should I care?” I muttered.
“You obviously like me,” he stated calmly, causing my cheeks to flush.
“Oi, don’t suddenly say stupid things like that!” I snapped.
“But it’s true,” he said, meeting my eyes steadily. “If it wasn’t, you would have chosen Blake already, am I right?”
I had nothing to say to that.
Because it’s true.
It is not true! Why are you on his side?
He has a point you know, if you didn’t like him or had some sort of feelings for him, you would have chosen Blake already.
Stop agreeing with people other than me!
Someone’s got to set you straight…
I sighed out loud; not even caring that Kalem was right there in front of me. He wasn’t someone who questioned what I did.
“Jesse,” he suddenly said softly, causing me to meet his eyes once again. “Can I kiss you?”
“You’re actually asking me now?” I replied, raising an eyebrow. “I’m surprised,”
“Can I?” he asked again seriously.
“If I say no,” I said. “Will you kiss me anyway?”
“I won’t,” he said sincerely, causing my cheeks to flush even more.
“Gees,” I mumbled “I just can’t figure you out. One minute, you’re doing all these things and then the next you’re acting like a proper gentleman. I don’t even know which one is the real you,”
“But they both are,” Kalem replied. “If I just teased you all the time, you may come to hate me, and because I love you so much I couldn’t possibly let that happen,”
My cheeks blazed red and I quickly averted my gaze; wishing I could get up and leave. I mean, what was his problem? Saying stuff like that? It’s incredibly embarrassing!
“It’s getting late,” Kalem sighed softly. “I wouldn’t want you getting in trouble because of my being here. I guess I will see you again tomorrow,”
With that, he gently kissed my crown before jumping off the top bunk we were on and heading to the door. I looked over the side rail and stared as he turned back to me and bowed formally.
“I will see you soon, my love,” he smiled before he headed outside and closed the door behind him.
With a groan, I dropped myself back onto my bed and sighed. There was no way I could fall asleep now. My heart was beating a million miles an hour and my face was so flushed it was hot.
