Waking up the next morning, my body felt sluggish and my head hurt. With a groan I climbed off my bunk and headed to the bathroom to have a shower. As my eyes drifted around the room they caught sight of my reflection in the mirror which caused me to freeze.

My eyes were tinged red, as were my cheeks while the rest of my face was pale and sweaty. Gingerly stepping forward I leaded against the counter and blinked to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. For reassurance, I placed a hand to my forehead and gasped at the heat radiating from it.

As I tried to quickly get out of the room and talk to Emily, a wave of dizziness swam over my body like a tsunami and my legs seemed to fail; my body hitting the floor painfully.

"Jesse!?" Emily called from the other side of the room. "Is everything okay?!"

I tried to speak but my throat hurt so all I could do was cough violently. In a split second Emily was in the bathroom; her crutches forgotten as she hobbled on one foot in the doorway. Just one look at me drained the colour from her face.

"JESSE?!" she exclaimed. "You look terrible! Come on we have to get you to the infirmary!"

"No," I coughed. "The sports carnival.."

"Who gives a rat's ass?" Emily snapped somehow managing to get me up without using her injured foot. "I'm taking you to your mother!"

And that she did. But she didn't get far by herself before Danielle stepped out of her room and gasped.

"What's happening?" She asked, incredibly worried.

"Jesse is super sick," Emily explained, her voice urgent and worried. "We need to get her to the infirmary,"

"Let me help too!" Danielle said, dashing to my other side and sliding my arm over her shoulders as she helped me to stay upright. "Emily, go grab your crutches, I can take her for a little,"

With a court nod Emily hopped back to her room, appearing again quite quickly on her crutches as she walked beside us; her face watching mine intently.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" Charlotte suddenly asked, appearing at the bottom of the stairs; the rest of the girls behind her.

"Jesse's sick," Danielle explained quickly. "Charlotte, come help me,"

Without a word if objection or a groan of frustration, she came over and grabbed my other arm, placing it over her own shoulders.

"She needs to get to the infirmary," Emily mumbled urgently. "I'll call her mother now and tell her she's coming,"

With that I was supported out of the dorm and towards the infirmary. As it was still early, no one else was even awake yet which allowed me some relief; I really didn't feel up to dealing with people right now.

It took us some time, but my mother was already waiting at the end of the hall. Without a word she lifted me up bridal style and shooed the others away as she carried me into the infirmary and gently placed me on one of the white beds.

Without a word she quickly vanished into her office for a few minutes before coming out with a glass of water.

"Drink this," she murmured gently. "It'll take a few minutes to take effect but it'll do the trick,"

She then added something else to that about it only working a few days but it didn't really register in my brain because I was currently chocking on the poison my mother had just given me.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?" I shouted, pointing to the glass. "This isn't water!"

"When did I say it was?" she shrugged casually. "now drink the rest of it if you want to compete today!"
