*Blake's P. O. V*

Sitting beside the white bed, I felt a wave of guilt flush across my body like a tsunami. I should have realised what was going on and stopped this from happening.

As I watched the soft, delicate face contort with pain I quickly grabbed the already warm washer off her forehead and cooled it off in a bowl of ice water before wringing it and placing it back.

Checking the time, I realised the school gates would be opening in 20 minutes, and I needed to get ready and help out. But as I glanced back on the body lying beside me, I couldn't find the effort.

"Blake, you should get going dear," Mrs. Patchent smiled wearily. "I can take care of her from here,"

Biting my lip I glanced back down and sighed heavily.

"You're right," I nodded. "She's in good hands,"

With a tight smile I quietly left the infirmary, trying hard not to look back because I knew if I did I wouldn't be able to leave.

As I walked down the corridor, I saw a group of people up ahead. I waved wearily at them, their faces the same as mine.

"How is she?" Patrick asked.

"Far from good," I replied. "Where did the others go?"

"Jace went to the canteen to make her something," Danielle murmured.

"Kalem went to do his dorm head duties for today, and Gabrielle is taking over for Jesse," Patrick added.

I nodded silently, sighing as I realised I had to go do my part for the open day. Even so, it was hard to even attempt a smile while Jesse was seriously sick in the infirmary.

"Blake, come on let's go," Emily murmured from beside me.

I glanced over at her and nodded slowly. The sooner these next few hours were over, the sooner I could go back and check on Jesse.

"You shouldn't blame yourself you know," Emily said as we began to head towards the front of the school. "Jesse knew the consequences she was getting into, and there's nothing you could do about it,"

"I still wish I had of realised what was going on," I muttered, clutching my fingers into tight fists. "I could have done something for her then,"

"Blake seriously," Emily sighed, shaking her head. "Don't worry about it. By this time tomorrow Jesse will be up and running again, so don't you worry about her okay?"

I bit my lip and nodded in silence. Jesse was a fighter, and Emily was right. By tomorrow she would be up and rearing to go again, maybe kick Kalem's ass for perving on her while she was asleep, and maybe even agree to go on a date with me next week.

But what none of us seemed to realise was just how serious of a condition Jesse was actually in.

*Jesse's P.O.V*

Walking to school on Monday morning, everything seemed... Wrong. It was a normal day, and everyone was acting as per usual but something just seemed off.

"Morning Jesse!" Faith grinned, dashing up to me, her books in her arms. "Did you sleep well last night? You left early, did you have a meeting?"

"No...?" I replied, puzzled.

I left when I usually left, and I could have sworn Faith was awake then too; I saw her in the foyer reading... And why was she so giddy?

"Are you feeling alright?" I asked her, reaching out to feel her forehead which she ducked away from and dashed ahead.
