Only Five Days...

Just five days Jesse, only five days and you can go back to being a girl again.

I kept repeating that to myself as I lay awake in the darkness.

Five days and you can go back to sleeping in your own bed. You’ll have your own clothes and you won’t have to worry about having someone who loves you sleeping under you every night.

Rolling over I let out a deep, yet quiet sigh; not wanting to wake Blake below me who was sleeping as though nothing was out of the ordinary. But of course he’d think that. Why would the thought of a possible repeat of first term cross his mind at a time like this? For all he knew, I was sleeping in my own room with Emily, and above him right now was his friend Jace.

That didn’t help me sleep one bit though.

Not too surprisingly, I didn’t get a wink of sleep the first night back in Dorm 2. So it was no surprise that my eyes were bloodshot as though I had a massive hangover as I stumbled out of bed the next morning.

“Whoa, Jace, what happened to you?” Blake asked, staring at me worriedly.

“Couldn’t sleep,” I replied honestly.

“Are you sick or something?” He asked, narrowing his eyes at me. “Your voice has seemed off since you came back yesterday. Not much, but still,”

Oh crap he noticed?!

“Not to mention not sleeping… Maybe you should take the day off and rest,”

“I’ll be fine,” I said, waving it off. “I’m going to take first shower, alright?”

“Sure, go ahead,” he replied, still looking worried as I closed the bathroom door behind me and locked it.

If he realised my voice change, there’s no doubt Emily’s figured this out with Jace… Will she say anything? Will she confront me?

Calm your hormones woman.

Thanks for the advice, thing-in-my-mind-that-doesn’t-know-what-I’m-feeling.

That’s no way to treat someone who’s helped you!

When was the last time you actually helped me?

Uh…

Exactly.

Sighing heavily I stripped and got into the shower. It was annoying, having to constantly remove my wig to wash my hair. Then I had to blow dry my hair if I didn’t want the wig to be ruined.

First World Problems much?

After having a shower and drying my hair as quickly as possible, I got dressed, painfully pulling my singlet over my chest. I wasn’t sure how I put up with this thing for a whole term before, I really didn’t.

After getting dressed and securing my wig onto my head I sighed heavily and headed outside where Blake was rummaging around in his bag for something.

“What are you looking for?” I asked him curiously.

“I could have sworn I had some,” he mumbled to himself before grinning and pulling something out. “A-ha! Knew it!”

“What is it?” I asked again.

“Here,” he said, handing me a packet of throat soother lollies. “This should help with your voice,”

I honestly didn’t know what to say. Or think. Or do.

Is he really that dense? If he can figure out it’s not Jace’s voice, how come he hasn’t figured out it’s mine?

You answered that yourself. He wouldn’t even consider this happening; you and your brother swapping places. If anyone notices, it’ll be Kalem and Emily for sure.
