Feeling something hard jab at my cheek was what finally woke me up. At first, I groaned and turned over, drawing the thin sheet over my head wanting to go back to sleep.
"Damn it, Jesse, wake up already! I know you can hear me,"
Sighing heavily I forced my eyes open and turned around to see the eyes of my best friend glaring at me.
Oh god...
"What the hell have you been doing for the past four days? You've been worrying us all sick!" Emily growled at me, jabbing my cheek over and over.
"Ow! Stop that, it hurts you know!" I whined, sitting up and rubbing the red mark forming where she had jabbed me.
"Well whose fault is that?!" She snapped.
"Yours obviously," I muttered under my breath.
"Don't test me, Jesse," Emily threatened. "I have to leave for class, so you better have your sorry ass back in the dorms by the end of the day or I'll drag you back myself,"
With a flick of her blond hair over her shoulder, she left the room. Sighing, I rubbed my eyes and stretched my arms over my head. Abruptly, my mother burst into the room, stormed over to my bed and harshly flicked my forehead.
"Ouch!" I cried, instantly covering the red mark with my hands. "What was that for?"
"Worrying everyone!" She snapped.
"Why is everyone being so angry with me?!" I groaned.
"Because we were all worried sick about you!" My mother snapped back, before she took a breath and calmed down, sitting on the edge of the bed and lightly stroking my hair. "You even gave me a scare for a while,"
I blinked, trying to believe that the woman before me was actually my devil mother.
"Well I didn't mean to..." I said slowly, cautiously, not wanting to awaken the devil again.
"I know, I know," my mother sighed, "you're awake now, and you seem to be fine. I'll give you something to eat and then you can head back to your dorm okay?"
"Yeah... Sure," I replied as she smiled and left the room.
I don't know if I should be feeling safe or scared right now...
Probably scared.
Oh god, what do you want?
Oh nothing in particular. Just your soul.
..... What?
Calm down, I'm only joking. I am your soul afterall.
I thought you were... Actually no. I'm not having this argument again.
Sounds fantabulous.
Eventually my mother came back with some chicken soup and some fresh bread which I eagerly devoured. Once I was finished, my mother quickly checked me over again, and after believing I was mostly fine she sighed.
"Your ankle is still in bad shape, so you'll need to walk around on crutches for at least a week before you can use it again,"
"I almost forgot about that," i murmured, staring down at my still-bandaged ankle. "It hardly hurts so I forgot it was in bad shape,"
"Youre just lucky you've had the last few days here and haven't moved it at all,"
"That reminds me.. How did I even end up here? The last thing I remember was going to the Dorm Head meeting and finding out the placings,"
