Hoseok got off from work a bit later than usual. He had done some overtime he boss asked him to because he didn't have anything else to do that day. It was already dark outside when he started walking back home but luckily it wasn't far from his place.
While walking back, he took out his phone and turned it on to see if he had any messages from his friend rental service boss - it was because of him he had turned his phone off in the first place. He was in a situation where he didn't feel like doing the friend thing. He wanted to get things sorted out with Hyungwon first.
He had no messages from his boss and first he thought his brain was fooling him because he had a voice message from Hyungwon. He felt a bit nervous when he opened it and put the phone against his ear to listen to it.
He suddenly felt much lighter. Hyungwon wanted to make peace with him. He started walking towards his apartment faster, knowing that Hyungwon was waiting for him there since school had ended a while ago already.
Hoseok couldn't wait to see Hyungwon, his shy smile and to feel his lips against his own and also have a reminder of how his small body felt when Hoseok hugged him.
He heard loud barking of a big dog and got a bit startled because he had been in his thoughts. Then there was some screams and another voice yelling. Hoseok stopped on his tracks, wondering what was going on and where.
Then he saw some guy running from the alley that went to behind his apartments. Behind that someone there came a dog that was still barking when it attacked the guy and made him fall down. Then another guy ran to them.
Hoseok's blood ran cold when he realized the familiarity of the screaming voice. It was Hyungwon.
He couldn't feel his legs properly but he still ran faster than ever. He grabbed the random man before he could get any closer to Hyungwon and pulled him away. The man stumbled on his feet and fell backwards.
The dog attacked Hoseok to protect its owner. Hoseok didn't pay attention to it, squeezed his fist tight and swung it to the man's face with all his strength. He could feel the cheekbone almost breaking under his knuckles.
The man ran to the other way and the dog soon let go of Hoseok and followed him.
"Hyungwon!" Hoseok turned to the guy laying on the ground. He wasn't screaming anymore, in fact, he didn't even seem to be conscious.
Hoseok knelt next to him and put a hand in front of his mouth to make sure that he was still breathing. He had probably just passed out due to the panic.
Hoseok picked up his body bridal style and started carrying him to his apartment that luckily wasn't that far anymore. He kept Hyungwon really close to himself as if he was afraid that something would happen. He couldn't believe that the minute Hyungwon was alone, something already happened to him.
They got to his apartment and Hoseok put Hyungwon down on the bed. He took a chair and sat next to him to wait for him to wake up.
--
Hyungwon gasped as he woke up quickly. He sat up and his head felt dizzy. He immediately recognized himself to be in Hoseok's bed. He felt hot and cold at the same time, as if he was running a fever.
"You're awake," Hoseok muttered, holding back a yawn to pretend that he hadn't been sleeping. "How are you feeling?"
Hyungwon couldn't answer. It was hard to breathe and his chest hurt. His eyes shifted around in Hoseok's house as he was trying to tell himself that nothing bad had happened and that he was safely with Hoseok.
"Hey," Hoseok's tone turned to more worried one as he noticed that Hyungwon was out of his mind. He moved to sit on the bed next to his legs. "It's okay. You're safe now," he said and placed his hand on top of Hyungwon's thigh.
"Hoseok..." Hyungwon broke down and leaned towards Hoseok who just put arms around him like he always would. It was funny how it had been a minute back with Hoseok and he was crying again. Maybe it was just their thing. "I was so scared."
"I know," Hoseok sighed while soothing Hyungwon's hair. "I'm sorry for not being there earlier."
"I'm sorry too..."
"It's not the time for you to be sorry," he said and let go of Hyungwon. He pulled away a bit and put his hands on Hyungwon's cheeks to look him straight in the eyes. "Rest up a bit more. I think you're getting sick."
Hyungwon slept for almost two hours more. Hoseok left a message to his parents from his phone saying that he would be staying there and not going to school the next day. He didn't care about what they would say. He didn't want Hyungwon to be apart from him any longer. Also Hyungwon didn't seem to be in the shape to go to school.
It was nine when Hyungwon woke up. Hoseok was sitting on the chair next to him again. This time he had gotten a wet, cold cloth and put it on top of Hyungwon's forehead.
Hyungwon was really hot and sweating. Hoseok knew he should take his clothes off so it wouldn't be as uncomfortable but considering how Hyungwon always slept with his clothes on, Hoseok assumed that he wanted to hide his body and Hoseok respected him enough to not undress him without permission.
"Have you been there the whole time?" Hyungwon asked after he had woke up. He turned to lay on his side so he could look at Hoseok better.
"Yes," Hoseok answered with a small smile.
"I think I had a panic attack, Hoseok," Hyungwon said after a while. He looked at Hoseok with sad eyes and Hoseok just wanted to hug him again to make him feel better. "I was so scared it would happen again."
First Hoseok was just trying to find something sympathetic to say but then he realized. "What? Has this happened before?" he asked with a serious tone, leaning a bit closer towards Hyungwon again. "You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to, Hyungwon, but I would appreciate it if you could trust me."
"I..." Hyungwon remembered what had happened to his trust just a few days ago. Besides his parents, no one knew about this thing. Not even Aunt Park or Kihyun, who had been good friends with Hyungwon. Now Hyungwon was glad he had never told Kihyun because if he had, all his friends and maybe the whole school would know about it by now.
He wanted to trust Hoseok and he wanted to be able to tell him this thing but he couldn't help feeling anxious. Would Hoseok laugh at him? Leave him behind? Tell everyone? Hyungwon wanted to believe Hoseok would never do anything like that but something was still holding him back.
"It's okay," Hoseok leaned down to kiss his forehead. "I understand," he said and stood up.
"Can you turn Jisoo on?" Hyungwon asked with tired voice and looked at Hoseok.
"Have you named out TV Jisoo or do you want me to put on Sassy Go Go?" Hoseok asked laughing. Maybe Hyungwon was so feverish that he had started to say weird things.
Hyungwon let out a laugh and Hoseok turned the television on and chose Sassy Go Go.
"I'm gonna make you food," he said and walked to the kitchen while Hyungwon started watching the drama. He was glad that things seemed to be starting to settle down between them even though this unfortunate thing had to happen for it.
"Thanks Hoseok," Hyungwon muttered. "And I still love you too."
