Richard drove aimlessly for about 3 hours. He didn't realized that he ended up driving around the city. He first stopped to the carnival where he went with Maine. Memories started to flood back to him. He was now crying uncontrollably alone in his car. He didn't know what to do, all he know is he's hurting too much.
At around midnight, he decided to go home. When Richard arrived home, he went directly to Sebastian's room to check on his son. Sebastian on the other hand was sleeping soundly. Richard sat on the side of Sebastian's bed and touched Sebastian's forehead and kissed the sleeping child.
"Sebastian, baby I'm sorry." Richard said while holding the right hand of Sebastian. "I'm sorry. I won't be able to fulfill your wish to have Maine as your mom." Richard's tears are now falling freely on both his eyes. He's still trying to control his sobbing, but to no avail. "I tried everything to win her heart. I tried to be patient and understanding. I am willing to wait for her until she's ready to open her heart again. I thought tonight is the right time to ask her. But I guess I'm not what she wanted."
Richard was just holding Sebastian's hand as he continues to silently cry. "I tried baby. I tried to win her heart. But it's not enough. I thought if I will show her how much I love her, she will also fall for me. I thought I can be enough for her in the end, but I'm not. She still choose someone else." Richard then kissed Sebastian's cheeks and said with finality, "You're all that I have now. I love you baby."
With that, Richard stand up and walked towards the door and left the Sebastian's room and headed straight to his room. When he reaches his room he immediately changed his clothes and settled in to his bed. He's trying to sleep the pain away but to no avail. He tossed and turned on his bed. He wanted to stop thinking about the events tonight but it was useless. All he can see is the smiling face of Maine, her brown big eyes and pouty lips. Why can't I make myself forget her? He thought. He then cry again on his bed and he feels his heart still breaking into million pieces as he remembers Maine.
The following day, Maine woke up early. Even though she was not able to get enough sleep last night, she can't wait to go to work. She wasn't able to contact Richard last night and her texts and calls were left unanswered. She knows that whatever happened last night, Richard was hurt and she knows that she needs to explain her side.
When Maine arrived at the hospital she immediately went to the office of the hospital's administrator. With the construction of the new building completed and its opening scheduled next week Richard will surely be there. She knows that if she wanted to find Richard and talk to him, she will surely find him there.
However, when she arrived outside of Dr. De Leon's office, she found two gentlemen waiting outside. As she approach the office, Dr. De Leon stepped out.
"Ah, Dr. Mendoza. You're just in time." Dr. De Leon said to Maine.
"Good Morning Dr. De Leon." Maine politely greeted.
"Good Morning to you too! Come in, come in." Dr. De Leon answered.
Dr. De Leon entered first, followed by Maine and the other two gentlemen. Dr. De Leon addressed the three other occupants of the room. "Please seat down."
When they were all settled, Dr. De Leon addressed them.
"Gentlemen, this is Dr. Mendoza." Dr. De Leon started the introduction. He then turned to Maine and said, "Dr. Mendoza, this are Engr. White and Architect Simone. They work for the Faulkerson Construction Corporation. They were sent here by Richard."
The two gentlemen extended their hands to Maine and said, "Please to meet you Dr. Mendoza."
"It's nice to meet you too." Maine answered.
When the pleasantries were done, Dr. De Leon then said, "So, now that the construction is done, can we push through with the opening of the new wing next week?" he asked the two gentlemen.
"Yes, based on the inspection we conducted earlier today, the building is now complete and ready for use." Engr. White said.
"That's good. We can push through with the ribbon cutting next week to officially open it." Dr. De Leon said with approval.
Before anyone of the two can again answer, Maine butted in. "Excuse me Sir, but where is Richard?"
"Oh! Didn't he told you?" Dr. De Leon turned to Maine with a questioning look. "Well, Richard called me earlier that he won't be able to attend the meeting as he's not feeling well, so he just sent Engr. White and Arch. Simone instead."
"Oh!" that was all Maine was able to say.
"Don't worry Dr. Mendoza. Sir Richard endorsed to us everything that we needed check on the new wing prior to its turnover." Arch. Simone assured her.
"Thank you sir." Maine answered politely.
"Well, I hope that everything will be okay on the turnover ceremony on Monday." Dr. De Leon said.
"We assure you sir that everything will be in order on that day. Me and Engr. White will be here for the rest of the week to ensure that everything will be smooth come Monday." Arch. Simone assured them.
"All week? Is Richard not coming here at all?" Maine couldn't control herself to ask.
"We are not sure Dr. Mendoza. He might be busy with the new project in New Jersey that's why he asked us to be here this week." Engr. White answered.
"New Jersey?" Maine asked.
"Yes, ma'am. There's a new project in New Jersey. I'm just not sure if he will be the lead architect there."
"Oh! O-okay." Maine replied.
"Is there a problem Maine?" Dr. De Leon then asked her with concern on her eyes.
"No, no, no. There's no problem Sir." Maine replied.
"Then if there's no problem then I think we can end this meeting." Dr. De Leon then stand up and turned to the two gentlemen. "Thank you for dropping by my office on such as short notice. I'm sure I'll still see you around here."
"The pleasure is all ours Dr. De Leon. We will ensure that there won't be any problem come the turnover." Engr. White again reassured him.
"Thank you. Thank you very much." Dr. De Leon said again.
"You're welcome Sir. We'll take our leave now." Arch. White said. "Dr. Mendoza, good day."
"Good day to you as well, and thank you." Maine said with not much enthusiasm.
When they went out of the hospital's administrator's office, Maine immediately walked towards the doctor's lounge and again tried to call Richard. When he still didn't answer, her then sent a text message.
Maine waited for a response the whole morning, but to no avail. She said to herself. If he won't answer until tonight, I will go to their house instead. She said with determination. All day she had been waiting for Richard to at least respond to her even just through text, but there was none.
