Chapter 49

Miggy approaches both Richard and Maine with a ready smile. When he reached the couple he greeted them. "Good Evening Dr. Mendoza." He then turned to Richard and said, "Pleasant evening Richard. It's nice to see you again." He said with a smile as he extends his hand for a handshake.

Before Maine can answer, Richard spoke, "What do you want Dr. Alfonso?"

"Oh, nothing. I was just going ask Dr. Mendoza if she got her phone." He then turned to Maine and said. "You left your phone in the conference room. I tried to catch you up to hand it to you, but I was told that you already went on an surgery. So I just handed it to the nurse to give it to you." He said everything with a beaming smile.

"Yeah right." Richard mumbled.

"You said something, Richard?" Miggy asked.

Richard refused to answer as he was trying to contain himself from punching Miggy because of how he looks at Maine. Maine on the other hand felt that Richard was already on the verge of punching Miggy so she immediately spoke. "Yes, I got it Miggy. Thank you for that."

"You're welcome, Dr. Mendoza."

"Oh, please. You can call me Maine. It's rather unnerving when you call me Dr. Mendoza. I feel like my father will pop in anytime."

"Are you sure, I can call you Maine?" Miggy said.

"Yes, Miggy. As long as we maintain our professional relationship here in the hospital." Maine said.

"Okay. If you say so. Well, I will be going then. It's nice to see both of you again." Miggy said as he was about to turn around and walk towards his car.

"Wait!" Richard said with controlled voice.

"Yes, Richard?" Miggy said and again faced them.

"Why did you cut the call earlier when I called?" Richard said.

"Oh that. I didn't cut it. Maine's phone got low batt, I think. When I looked at the batt it was already empty." Miggy said. "I informed the nurse about it when I handed over Maine's phone. I even left a message for you Maine. Didn't you get it?" He again asked Maine.

"No. The nurse didn't told me anything." Maine said.

"Oh okay." Miggy then turned to Richard and spoke to him. "I thought of calling you back to inform you Maine's phone died, but then I don't have your number. So I just left a message to the nurse."

Maine just looked at Richard gauging his reaction. When she saw that Richard's jaw is still hard and it's evident that he's still trying to contain his anger, it was she who answered. "Well, thank you Miggy. We really appreciate that."

"No problem Maine." Miggy answered. "So, I better go ahead. I still have somewhere to go to." He then turned to leave the two.

When Miggy was already out of earshot, Maine finally spoke, "Love, let's go?"

Richard just nodded and guided Maine towards his car. When they finally settled in, Maine spoke again. "Love you okay?"

"You seemed too comfortable with Miggy now, huh."

"What? Where did that come from?"

"Well, you were very open in accepting his reason about the phone." Richard said, irritation is still evident on his voice. "You even suggested for him to start calling you Maine again."

"Richard..." Maine said with hint of teasing on her voice. "Are jealous?"

"What?" his voice was a little high pitch. "Of course not. Why would I be jealous?"

"Hahahaha.... OMG! You're so cute." Maine said as she was already laughing.

"This is not funny." Richard said.

"Y—ye—ss! I—it is." Maine said as she struggled to speak because she still cannot contain her laughter.

Richard just frowned and is getting irritated because of Maine's continued laughter.

"Oh, Love! You're one cute jealous man." Maine said as she wipes the tears that's falling her cheeks because of excessive laughing.

"Maine. This is not funny. And I'm not jealous."

"Yes, you are. Your ears are turning red. And you should see your face. You're turning red." Maine said as she poke his cheeks.

"I'm not." He said exasperatedly as he holds his ears.

"Okay. If you say so." Maine said. "Then, let's go."

"Grrrrr...." He half-shouted. "Fine! I'm jealous! But only a bit." Richard said.

"Hahahaha.... Only bit? Are you sure?" Maine can't help but tease him again.

"Fine. I'm terribly jealous. Happy?"

"Oh... You're so cute Love." She then held his face and spoke again, "I love you!" Then kissed him lightly on his lips.

Richard pouted when he realized that Maine just gave him a simple peck on his lips. "One more?"

Maine then again comes close to him and give him a kiss. Richard then held her face for a longer kiss. His left hand snaking to her waist while his right hand went on to hold the back of her head to deepen their kiss. When their need for air was imminent, they reluctantly pulled away from one another to catch their breath. Their foreheads were still touching and Richard didn't removed her arms on Maine's waist. Instead, he gathered her into his arms and enveloped her into a tight hug. "I love you, Maine! So much." He then whispered.

"I love you too, Love." Maine responded.

After they have disentangled themselves from their embrace, Maine then said, "Love, as much as I like seeing the jealous side of Richard, please remember that you have nothing to be jealous at all. Miggy is nothing to me aside from being my colleague. Nothing more. Okay?"

Richard nodded and answered, "I know. And I'm sorry. I just can't help it. I can't bear the thought of losing you. I love you so much. I don't know if I can still live without you."

"Love, you won't lose me ever. I promise to you that."

"Oh, God. I love you." Richard again embraced her tightly.

"I love you. I love you. I love you." Maine answered him.

Then they heard a soft growl coming from Richard's stomach. Both of them burst out from laughing. "Love, as much as I want to stay in your arms, I think your stomach is saying otherwise."

"Yeah. Well, I haven't eaten since this afternoon as I have been busy and also worried about you."

"Oh, I'm sorry I got you worried. Promise I will make it up to you." She said with a smile.

"Really?!?! How?" Richard ask with his eyes getting wider and his eyebrows going up and down. He's now grinning wide.

"Richard, stop it!" Maine said as she lightly slapped Richard on his arm and was blushing furiously.

"Okay, okay. I'll stop." Richard said. "Let's go. Let's just have dinner first. Then I will take you home."

"You'll take me home?" Maine asked a little bit surprised with what Richard said.

"Yes. I take you to your home." He said with a smile, "Unless you want to sleep in my house. I have no problem with that."

Maine just blushed furiously while Richard's laughter echoed inside his car as they drove away.
