Megan's mother, Amber, visited her a day after the incident. She was not allowed to see her daughter when she woke up so she decided to visit her the next day.
Amber walked towards Megan's ward, a 'Get Well Soon' card in hand. As soon as she neared Megan's ward, she told herself to smile.
After all, she didn't want Megan to worry about her. She wanted Megan to focus on her sole being. She didn't want Megan to worry about the shit that's been going on with her husband ever since the accident.
Amber shoved the thought at the back of her mind and pushed the door to Megan's ward slowly.
"Mom."
Amber was greeted by Megan's voice as she let the door shut behind her and walked to a chair besides Megan's bed.
"Megan."
Amber sat on the plastic blue chair and for a moment, neither of them knew what to say.
It was Megan who eventually broke the silence.
"Where's dad?"
Amber took a deep breath and faced her daughter, meeting her brown eyes. Amber didn't know what to say.
Should she speak of the truth or hide it?
"He's at work." Amber lied as guilt started locking itself in a chamber of her heart.
"Did you know about Jose-"
Megan nodded and for the first time, she saw her daughter cry.
Megan had always been somebody who never cried in front of her loved ones. She was the support wall that everybody could lean on when they were feeling low.
And yet here she is, the support wall that once lifted up so many spirits' crumbling down.
Amber forced herself to stare at her child, trying to contain the tears pooling at the corner of her eyes.
She didn't know what to say.
Megan was too smart for any solace she could offer.
And so she limply held her hands with Megan's and they remained that way for the next few hours.
