"No wai— Duncan. . . Stop." Megan mumbled as she tried to struggle free from Duncan's hands that were now wrapped around her body.
"Why?" Duncan paused as they stared into each other's eyes, not looking away. Megan could feel his fingers running down her back.
"Don't get the wrong idea Duncan but this just feels wrong." Megan started and Duncan lifted one of his eyebrows in puzzlement.
"I don't want you to love somebody who's suicidal as fuck and may eventually leave without any warning." Megan whispered and immediately she saw disappointment in Duncan's eyes.
"You're not happy with me? I thought your suicidal thoughts were gone. . . What happened?" He tugged at Megan's eyes, pleading.
"Duncan, I am a grenade. Every since this happened to me –" she pointed to her scar,"I have been a grenade. And I don't want you to love a grenade."
"But you love me right?" Duncan asked and Megan nodded without hesitation.
"We're just star - crossed lovers Duncan. We're not meant to be." Megan whispered, holding back her tears as she slid back into the passenger's seat next to him.
"Just take me home." Megan closed her eyes praying that Duncan won't suddenly lash out at her.
"I see Megan. I see. " Duncan mumbled as he looked straight ahead and started up the engine. Disappointment and hatred was written on his face. He was hurt.
"I regret ever meeting you. I fucking regret meeting you." Megan could hear Duncan cursing under his breath and her heart sank.
"I'm sorry Duncan. Life's just not on my side." Megan whispered as she they reversed and started the journey to, what she assumed, would be her home.
True enough it was. Duncan drove her home and dropped her in front of the lawn of her house. He never said a word.
Neither did she.
She stood on the pavement and watched Duncan go, sadness consuming her for she knew that besides watching Duncan go, she was watching the chances of being loved go.
