"His mother's in surgery as of now." Carly confirmed to the disbelief of Megan who gasped upon hearing the news.
The news rang in her ears like an alarm clock, failing to be stopped even if she attempted to do so.
"What?" Megan stuttered upon her words and Carly looked to her feet.
"His mother has lung cancer.. Stage four.." Carly repeated softly though loud enough for Megan to hear.
"For how long?" Megan mumbled under her breath as Carly lifted her head and took a deep breath.
"Not too sure. I never checked her medical record." Carly muttered causing Megan to run her hands on her face in frustration.

"Can I have some time alone?" Megan tried maintaining a calm voice but her words didn't come out as she intended.
Carly nodded and quickly left the room as Megan let me loud sigh.
She felt a mixed of emotions - anger, worry and more churning in her stomach as she closed her eyes.
Megan grabbed her phone and searched though her contacts for somebody whom she hadn't seen since she was admitted to the hospital.
She placed the phone against her ear and waited.
"Hello?" A weary voice spoke on the line and Megan took a deep breath.
"Mom?"
