"Duncan?" Megan whispered softly as she sat up against her pillows and watched as Duncan stumbled towards the chair besides her.
"Hey." Duncan muttered as he glanced at Megan who pursed her lips.
"Um hey." Megan answered back as she took deep breaths and looked up to the ceiling.
"How did the surgery go?" Megan asked, causing Duncan to turn his head and look at Megan who kept her gaze on the ceiling.
"She's fine."
"What actually happened?" Megan questioned as she furrowed her eyebrows and looked at Duncan.
"I don't know. She just started gasping for air and everything else was just a blur really." Duncan ran his hands against his face and sighed in frustration.
"It's because of her cancer isn't it?" Megan asked and Duncan widened his eyes.
"How did you know?" Duncan frowned, staring into Megan's eyes.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Megan ignored the question and retorted back with a question of her own.
"You bloody didn't need to know anything as far I'm concerned." Duncan snapped back causing Megan to nearly jump.
"I'm your fri -"
"Yes you are my friend. It's just that. . ." Duncan paused and rubbed his temple before continuing, "I don't want a pity party thrown for me, you know?"
"You don't want to be reminded of the shit you have to deal with, isn't it?" Megan muttered knowingly.
Duncan gave a curt nod and silence just followed soon after. However that silence was soon cut short as Duncan opened his mouth to speak.
"So if you know about my parents. . ." Duncan paused, one that seemed practiced, before continuing whilst staring into Megan's eyes,"Tell me about yours."
And so she did.
