I was ready to turn my back and go straight up to the car when suddenly, my phone vibrated for a text.
Kinuha ko iyon sa aking bulsa at nakita ang pangalan ni Gavin. Napabuga ako ng hangin. Naiirita ako. Sino ba namang hindi? He's with that Laura! Again!
"Sid... Si Gavin, o. Nandoon pa rin sa labas. Puntahan mo kaya?" Kinalabit ako ni Cleo.
Hindi ko siya nilingon. Sa halip ay bumaling ako sa kinatatayuan ni Gavin. Hawak niya ang kanyang cellphone at nakasandal sa kanyang silver Volkswagen.
He's seriously looking straight at the screen of his cellphone. His right arm on the pocket of his black pants.
Napanguso ako. He's probably waiting for my reply. What now? So did he just text me he's with Laura?
Nagdesisyon akong buksan ang kanyang mensahe para ibsan ang mga hinuha ko sa isip. I bit my lower lip as I swiped for his message.

Hi, Sid. I'm out today. I'm with Kuya Justin and Laura. We're attending a lunch meeting with Laura's brother.

To Gavin Jalbuena:

Agad ko siyang nilingon pagkatapos mai-send ng text ko. He immediately looked at his cellphone when it vibrated. I know it did. Wala ring message alert tone iyon kaya alam ko.
Nag-ayos siya sa pagkakatayo. I can't decipher the look on his face when he stared at his phone.
"Sid... Balik ako sa loob ng Grips. I forgot one of the bags." It's Cleo.
Tumango ako agad sa kanya at muling nilingon si Gavin na nasa parking lot pa rin ng kabilang establishment.
His phone on his right ear. Halos maibato ko ang aking cellphone nang mag-ring iyon sa isang tawag.
Freaking Jalbuena! Now I'm left with no choice.
"H-Hello?" I almost stuttered.
Diretso ang tingin ko sa kanya. Only the sideview of his face is visible. Nakasandal pa rin sa kanyang sasakyan at ang isang kamay ay nasa bulsa.
Hinaplos niya ang kanyang batok bago siya magsalita.
"Sid..." His hoarse voice lingered.
Napakagat ako sa labi. I can clearly see from here how his eyebrows are somewhat puckered.
"Thought you're outside? Nagsimula na ba ang lunch?"
I tried to sound as if we're cool. We're not! He's with Laura!
"We just got here. We're at Ganza Restaurant. Uhh, Sid..."
"Hmm?" I bit my lower lip.
"I love you..." He paused. "No turning back whatever happens, okay?"
Saglit akong natigilan at tumitig sa kanyang gawi. Ganoon pa rin ang kanyang posisyon. Only that he looked disturbed or something.
