Paige looked at the scenery in the room. Everything had happened so quickly. She looked around the room trying to catch her breath. It was all too much to take in. A body was on the floor. The bullet had aimed for the heart. The person was dead.
"It's over," a voice in the crowd shouted.
Paige looked at James, her brother who was on her right, holding his mouth. His ocean blue eyes were filled with disbelief. She then looked at Blake, her youngest brother. He was breathing heavily due to anxiety and confusion. Paige suddenly saw herself losing balance. The surroundings seemed to overwhelm her. She fell and she was caught from behind.
"Paige!!" the guy shouted.
"Conner," she whispered before closing her eyes.
She later woke up in a room with a doctor sitting by her bed. The female doctor gave her a smile that made her aware that she wasn't okay."How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine," Paige answered, trying to pull herself up.
"No, you need to keep yourself rested," the doctor said
"Okay," she said, making herself comfortable on the bed.
"My name is Dr Eliza Crane, but you can call me Eliza."
"Nice to meet you. What kind of doctor are you?" Paige asked.
"I'm a psychiatrist."
"Oh no, why would they send a psychiatrist. I'm fine. Thank you for your care doc but I'm fine."
"Paige you've been through a lot, more than any person of your age. You need help," Eliza said with a concerned look.
Paige gazed into the doctor's eyes. She was quite concerned, which made it obvious that she wasn't going to leave her anytime soon. She looked around as if looking for someone.
"They are fine. Your brothers are fine." Eliza answered with a hesitation in her voice.
"Be honest with me," Paige said with an annoyed look on her face.
"Your brothers are here. James is in the next room with one of my friends..."
"You mean another psychiatrist," Paige interrupted before she could finish,"Blake?"
"Blake is in the room across this one.."
"Let me guess with another one of your friends," she interrupted again, " Let us go, we're fine."
"No, you're not. James hasn't said a word since we got you guys here. Blake has been shaking uncontrollably."
Fear and concern highlighted her face which was already drained of colour. "What's the problem?" Paige asked before looking away trying to fight the tears in her fair brown eyes.
"You all have Post Traumatic stress disorder."
"Okay, so give us pills and we will be on our way."
"It doesn't work like that. You need to heal inside by facing the cause of the trauma."
Her gaze falls back to doctor. "What do you mean, facing the cause of the trauma?" Paige asked.
"I'm sorry. I know it's really sensitive but you have to narrate to me the occurrences that happened to you."
Paige looked up at the ceiling for a while,"No! I can't."
"Paige I know you love your brothers and they are suffering right now. They need you. You're the eldest. The faster we can help you the better because you can be there for them, to help them."
Paige sighed, "Okay. What do you want me to do?"
"I want you to tell me what happened to you. I need you to include vivid detail, everything from where you were when it all began to what got you here."
"Okay. I was..." Paige said stammering and removing the tears on her cheeks.
"Take your time," Eliza said with a comforting tone, holding her hand.
"We... Do you really want to know?" Paige asked with a frightened look.
"I do. This is good for you. It will help you. Okay to make it easier for you, narrate your story in the third person. Don't say I and we. Just talk to me as if you're not Paige but you're telling me what happened to Paige. Okay. Does that make it easier for you?"
"Yes," Paige answered. She took a deep breath and remained silent for a while, gazing at the ceiling. She pulled herself together.
"Okay. There once was a great city enclosed by a great wall. It's name was Redstone. The city was beautiful. It had a lot of food, poverty didn't exist. There were no feuds amongst the folks there. People respected the leadership. The homes were very pleasant and the people lived in tranquility." Paige found herself lost in a pool of images. Images that she had constantly tried to destroy in her subconscious. Images that she was now forced to retrieve in a bid to find her redemption. I guess no matter how many times you bury the past it always finds a way to claw it's way out. Truly there are some versions of darkness that cannot be engulfed by the light. The twilight was beautiful. The stars were a pleasant site. They lined the sky like diamonds complimenting the gorgeous spectacle that is the full moon. Shooting stars danced their way through the sky. Three siblings were on a roof, staring at the stars. They admired the night lights that shone over the great city buildings. The lights of the city wall were also visible in the distance.
"Life here is incredible," James said as he crossed his arms under his head resting his back on the roof. "Just look at the beautiful twilight."
"I know right." Paige responded looking at the shooting stars as they moved.
"Do you think anything can disrupt this peace?" Blake asked with a light chuckle.
"Never," James responded by tickling his little brother.
"Hahaha," they all laughed.
"Paige, James, Blake!" Claire Sanders called out to her kids,"It's time for dinner. Come inside."
"Okay mom," they responded in unison.
The kids got back into the house through James' balcony. They were all in a great mood. They walked towards the dining room.Hello everyone. Thank you so much for the reads. Feel free to comment.
