The Kids rushed to turn on the screen in the room to view what was happening outside. The scenery wasn't pleasant. People near their home where running around in numerous directions. They were using home appliances as weapons as well as old guns which they had locked away a long time ago since they never predicted such an event occurring. The screen the kids viewed was divided into four grids. One of the grids showed the part of the city near the wall. The other showed the central part of Redstone. The other showed the other end of the city wall. The last one showed the part just outside their house. The kids looked at their parents as they walked outside the Sanders home. The scenery seemed okay. A few minutes later they saw most of their neighbours walking outside their houses with murderous tools in their hands. At first there was silence as people were unaware of what to do. The silence broke when a man fell to the ground. The wife screamed as she couldn't believe her husband was bleeding on the ground with an axe on his back. The culprit was another neighbour. This sparked the beginning of the war. David took his gun and started shooting. The other men on his team did the same, with their wives protected in an arc formed by their husbands. The kids were at peace because it seemed as if their parents would be fine, then again peace is but an illusion.

"No!!!!!" Lisa cried as she took a few steps back to assimilate what she was seeing. Her father was flat on the ground with an arrow on his chest. Her mother was crying. The other wives were comforting her. Lisa looked at the other kids in the panic room." No, he's not dead. The screen has a problem." Paige and Alexis advanced towards her." Don't touch me. My dad is not dead. It's a joke. Please tell it's a joke or test or something," the girl said falling on her knees. Paige hugged her. Alexis rubbed her on the back. The boys stared at the screen.

Blake started panting. Paige turned to look at him." B!!!!" She rushed to the screen. Claire had been shot on the back. Her blood was coming out profusely that there wasn't much time to save her. David kissed his wife goodbye, then the remaining four fled for their lives running toward the car in the car park. Paige stood still for a while. James embraced his siblings. Paige was now screaming with tears falling down her cheeks. Blake was crying too. James was trying his best to be strong for his siblings but inside he was broken. The other four parents got into the car and it seemed as if they were going to leave safely. Conner was holding on to that hope that the other parents would be fine. This hope was destroyed when he saw one of the other neighbours who was chasing after the parents stood a range behind the car aiming it with what seemed to be a bazooka.

"No!!! Get out off the road," he screamed as if he could be heard. The others came close to the screen to view a very traumatizing image. The car exploded before their eyes. Alexis broke down beside Lisa. Blake gripped his brother's hand with a sick look on his face. He was breathing heavily. Paige started walking towards the exit.

"Paige where are you going?" James asked his sister who was now looking crazy.

"I'm going to tell the neighbours and our parents that they proved their point, that we can't live without them."

"Sweetheart, mom and dad are gone."

"No they are not James. You're so negative," she said shacking her head.

Conner walked toward Paige. Paige looked at him." Conner don't touch me."

Conner ignored her and he hugged her. Paige started crying." You need to be strong for them," Conner whispered into her ear.

Paige was silent for a while. She then freed herself from Conner's hug and ran to comfort her brothers and the girls. Conner comforted the others for a while before going back to the screen. He saw the people who lived near the wall running in the direction of the gate. Some were killing each other in a bid to be the only ones who survive. The scene was gruesome. It was truly a race for survival. They reached the part of the wall where there was an exit heading toward the gate. There was pressure at that exit. A few managed to overcome the pressure and came out running toward the gate. They felt overjoyed as they thought they were going to survive. Conner looked with anticipation wanting to know what would happen when the people pass the gate. As they approached the gate Conner noticed gun like structures protruding out of the gate."What!!!" the boy said in disbelief.

Alexis gazed on the screen with the others. She stood up." God no!!"

The gun like structures aimed the civilians who noticed it too late. The ones in the front were shot. The others advanced running back toward the wall, only to be greeted by a bomb placed in one of the houses near the wall.

"So the fact that the wall leads to redemption is a lie!!!" Lisa pointed out.

"Yes. To this Dukilian guy this is just a game and other people who didn't see this will never know that the gate is an illusion," James commented.

"But won't they see the bodies of the shot people?" Blake asked.

"They'll just assume that the people were killing each other. What game is this guy playing?" Paige asked pulling her hair back.

"No one is surviving this unless we have a plan. We need a strategy. Above all we need each other," Conner said.

This chapter was really hard to write. I actually felt the devastation of my characters when they lost their loved ones but I won't lie a sense of excitement came with the fact that the Gate was actually an illusion. Tell me how you felt about it and please vote:-)
