IMAGINE: KC is driving her three year old daughter, Mily back from preschool. She noticed her daughter was giggling and smiling. "Why you so happy Mily?" she asked. "Me have boyfriend new boy in class". KC chuckled at her daughter who is only three and has a boyfriend. "What's his name sweetie?". "Johy" she tried to say. "Oh you mean Johnny sweetie". She nodded. "Well maybe tomorrow I get to meet your boyfriend". When they arrived at school the next day KC was getting Mily out of her car seat as a viper pulled out. "Pretty car mommy". "I know". The man closed the door and walked to the side walk holding a little boy's hand. "Johy" she called out waving.
"Mil" he replied waving back. KC took her daughter's hand and walked over to them. "Hi I guess our kids are friends" you say a little nervous. The man looked like he should be on the cover of magazine. "Yea my son can't stop talking about Mily and I can see why". The man got on his knees and made a quarter appear from behind Mily's ear which made her giggle. "I'm KC" holding out her hand.
"Christopher but everyone call me Criss". "Not Grammie" Johnny replied as Criss blushed. "Why don't we bring our kids in"KC suggested. After they brought the kids in KC saw Criss talking to the teacher. She nodded her head and Criss walked over to Johnny. "Remember buddy be nice to everyone and if you start to feel sick tell the teacher and she'll bring you to the nurse OK". He gave his father a thumbs up. After they said their good-byes both of them went outside.
As KC was getting into her car she notice a look on Criss's face like he was about to cry. "You all right Criss?". "Yea just tired I guess". "Want to get some coffee I always get a cup after I drop Mily off". "Sure mind if we take your car?"Criss asked. "Sure get in". At the coffee shop they got their coffees and sat down. "Your daughter is beautiful I see a lot of you in her". "I'm thankful for that Mily's father cared more about working with his father in Hawaii than being a father to his daughter"she stated. "Does Mily ever see her father?".
"No he hasn't seen his daughter in two year I'm surprise he knew I left Hawaii when Mily was six months old" she remarked. "Johnny never knew his mom she died of complications of a C-section I've been raising Johnny on my own with a little help every now and again from my family" he replied. "I wish I had that I'm an only child my father passed away when I was six-car accident and my mother is in a nursing home in Dallas-she has Parkinson's".
"I should get going I have a meeting in an hour" Criss remarked. "Come on". When she dropped him off he said he had a nice time talking to you. "Criss if you're ever in a jam and can't pick up or drop off Johnny give me a call" giving him a business card. "Photographer I'll keep it handy thanks" and left. A few weeks went by and Criss and KC became friends and their kids loved hanging out with each other as much as the parents did.
One day when KC came to drop off she didn't see Criss and since she didn't get a call from him she guessed Johnny was sick. "Me miss Johny" Mily said. "What do you mean sweetie?". "Teacher said Johny sick can't come to school aymore". "I'll give Johnny's dad a call and see what's going on". After she dropped off Mily KC called Criss. "Hello". "Hey Criss it's KC I was wondering if you'd like to get a coffee I haven't seen you much and Mily said Johnny isn't in preschool anymore" she replied. Criss said nothing for a moment than said sure.
"Same place". "How about my house I have to stay close" he said. "Sure" and wrote down the address. When she got there Criss met her outside. "I see you found the house". "Need a roommate?" she jokily asked. "I've got a list that's from here to The Luxor to be honest with you" he replied. When she came in coffee was outside. "Where's Johnny?" she asked. "Sleeping right now come on" and they went outside. "Beautiful scenery Criss I need to bring my camera the next time I come here," as they sat down.
"So what's going on with Johnny?" You inquired. "Unfortunely a week ago Johnny started to get nose bleeds and fevers I brought him to his doc and they discovered Johnny has acute lymphocytic leukemia". "Oh my god Christopher I'm so sorry to hear that" she said. "He just started treatments so I have to be careful the doctor suggested since his immune is going to be compromised that I take him out of preschool" Criss remarked. KC could tell Criss was scared about losing his son. "How about this Criss you need an extra hand with this how about Mily and I stay here you can have someone to talk to and Johnny can have a friend his own age".
"You'd do that for me"Criss said surprised. "Criss you look like you're ready to fall apart mentally and Mily really misses her boyfriend so how about it" she suggested. "OK". When KC picked up Mily KC told her daughter that they were going to be helping out someone for a while. "Who?". "You'll see" she remarked. When they got there Criss was outside holding Johnny's hand. "Now before we get out you have to wear this mask just for a while" showing her. "Me be doctor" Mily said. She chuckled at the response. "You could say that come on". She put the mask on her daughter and they got out.
They walked over together and Johnny looked happy when he saw Mily. "You doctor?" he asked. "Sort of"she replied as she chuckled. As the kids talked Criss looked at KC and mouthed thank you. She smiled as they all went into the house together
