We woke up the next morning and headed into her house for breakfast. Her mother was up and making eggs. Danielle turned the TV on and we ended up watching “Paranormal Activity 4”. After breakfast, Danielle asked her mother if we could go for a walk and we went out the door in flip-flops, a shirt, jacket, and capris. My phone vibrated; it was a text message from David.
“Good morning baby.” he sent and I tried not to smile.
“What’s up?” I asked him then we walked outside onto the bike trail.
“Sitting in bed in my boxers.” he sent.
“Otay.” I replied then put my phone away in my bra.
“Are you sure you wanna do this?” she asked and I nodded as we reached the canal. I noticed a soccer ball in the weeds in the canal. “I wonder if we could be able to reach it.” Danielle said and I kept looking for other things that could’ve been in the canal. My phone vibrated again.
“What are you doing?” he sent and Danielle looked at me.
“I doubt it, unless we walked up the canal to get to it.” I said as I found a flattened volleyball. We kept walking down the bike trail until we were under a bridge by Tom’s Mountain View restaurant. We took our flip-flops off and walked into the canal.
“The mud is so squishy. Watch out for glass and slippery rocks. I don’t want you to fall in or have to help you walk back to my house.” Danielle said and I nodded as I was being cautious walking in the canal. I looked down and found a cloth then a shoe.
“Hanging out with Danielle. We’re walking in the canal.” I sent back to him.
“Someone lost a shoe.” I said and laughed a little. Danielle pulled out a beer bottle that hadn’t broke yet. She tossed it a little ways down the canal. We crossed to the other side and climbed up to the top. We headed toward an abandoned building with graffiti on the side. We took a few pictures with it then headed down to the canal again.
“Look, there’s two shopping carts in the canal.” Danielle said and I spotted at least one or two more.
“Make that four shopping carts.” I said as we went down into the water. I stepped on rocks then sat on the shopping cart that was on its side and out of the water a little. “Hey, take a picture.” I said as I handed her my phone, making sure that I didn’t drop it. She grabbed it then took a picture on my phone then on hers. Once I got over to her, she walked to the shopping cart and posed. I snapped a picture of her on her phone and on mine. I glanced at my phone and there was a message from David.
“Cool. Can you send me a picture of you naked?” he sent and I never replied to him.
“Alright, let’s keep walking.” she said as we climbed up to the bike trail then slipped our flip-flops back on. After we started walking, Danielle looked down at her foot and saw blood. She took her flip-flop off and saw a piece of glass cut through it. The glass had went through her foot. “Well, that ain’t cool.” she said and I nodded.
“Let’s go back to your house and fix the problem.” I said as she nodded, we started walking back with her limping. “You can use me for support, if you want.” I said to her so she wouldn’t be sore.
“I’ll be fine.” she said and I let it breeze off my shoulder as we kept walking. We finally reached the football field close to her house after ‘bout ten minutes and she put her flip-flop back on her foot.
