“I’ll think ‘bout it since Barry told me almost the same thing ‘bout rethinking my answer. I forgive you but you know better than anyone else than to cross way beyond that boundary line. You’ve crossed it earlier, Scott.” I said and he nodded.
“So, who was that on the phone?” Scott asked curiously. I didn’t know if I should’ve told him or not but I didn’t want to lie to him either.
“It was David, Scott. He just wanted to know more details ‘bout the tour.” I said and he gave me a stern look. I recrossed my arms and he sighed.
“Claire, can we just end this fight, please? I can’t stand to see you suffer anymore.” Scott said and I thought ‘bout it.
“Why did you have to confront me right now?” I asked but he didn’t reply right away and I saw Josh running toward us.
“Scott, you need to leave her alone!” Josh yelled and Scott flipped him off.
“Leave us alone, we’re talking.” Scott said and Josh stopped walking then just stood where he was. I looked back at Scott.
“Claire, please I beg you to give me a change. Go out with me, please.” Scott begged and I shook my head.
“I’m sorry, Scott but you know my boundaries. I can’t date you. I’m so sorry.” I said then walked home, leaving Scott hanging there and Josh looked like he had relief on his face. I finally got home and no one was home. So I decided to pack a bag for David’s, considering I thought I’d be there for hours and I’ll just stay the night with Josh afterwards.
‘Where do you live? I’m heading over now. Since I don’t need to be completely honest with my parents.’ I sent to David. I walked out of the house with a duffle bag for tonight.
‘I’ll have my dad pick you up. I don’t want you to walk here in the dark, Claire. He’s alright with you being here but we’ve kept it from my mother. I’ll have him pick you up at the library.’ David sent and I started walking to the library.
‘Okay, headin’ there now.’ I sent. By the time, I reached the library, a silver truck pulled into the parking lot. I thought I saw David in the passenger seat. The truck parked and the passenger side door opened. A boy ‘bout David’s description got out and looked toward my direction then waved at me. I half smiled at him then almost ran to him. He gave me a big grin.
“Hey, Claire.” He said with excitement in his voice. I smiled at him as I hugged him. I caught him off-guard and I chuckled a little bit. “Why are you chuckling?” he asked as he hugged me back after regaining reality.
“I’m chuckling because I caught you off-guard by hugging you.” I replied and he made an “o” with his mouth as he pulled away from me. I smiled at him again then we got into the truck and headed toward his house.
‘I hope my mother doesn’t mind me leaving the house before I asked permission to.’ I thought to myself as we were driving down the road and David looked over at me.
“Are you okay?” he asked and I looked up at him. I couldn’t lie to him at all; so I decided to tell him the truth.
“One, there’s the fact that Scott wants me to go out him but doesn’t understand I made a boundary between him and the rest of Parmalee. Two, my mother has no clue I left but probably has a general idea on where I could be. I need to text Josh and have him cover for me.” I stated as I pulled my phone out.
‘Josh, if my mom calls you, tell her that I’m with you but in the bathroom and can’t talk at the moment. I’ll be over there in a couple hours to stay the night anyways. Love you bro.’ I sent Josh and David touched my arm.
“What’s really wrong?” he asked me again and I took a deep breath.
“I’ll show you when we are alone because I don’t want anyone else to know and you have to promise that you won’t tell anyone ‘bout it.” I replied and he nodded.
“Okay, I’m here for you.” He said then held my hand the rest of the way to his house.
